Has a robust build to hold a decent amount of weight.

After recently purchasing items of furniture that needed put together, i found THIS 3-shelf book shelf not only easy to put together, but also it came with instructions that didnt have microscopic pictures %26 written instructions.  Print was easily read %26 shelf was put together very quickly.

These bookcases were just what I needed to add extra storage in my closet.  I was able to place 2 fabric bins next to each other on both shelves. I also put one shelf about 6 inches from the bottom, so I can store some shoes. Very easy to put together.

Great 3 shelf bookcase

I expected poor quality and instructions based on the price. I was seriously surprised by not only the value for the money, but also the quality of instructions and expectation of time to assemble. If I need more bookshelves, I will consider this brand.

good quality, great value for the money

I have had three of these for a couple years and they have held up extremely well.  They were heavily loaded with books and showed no signs of warping or sagging. So after moving we needed  3 more. These are a bargin. Great price and easy to assemble in about 30 minutes. Great assembly instructions. Only tools you will need are a phillips head screwdriver and a small hammer. If you have concerns about assembly you can access the video that shows how to.

I love these shelves, I bought all white ones. They are sturdy and inexpensive. I use them underneath my tvs, for dvds, books, baskets, plants, and decor.
I have a total of twelve that I use in my livingroom and bedrooms. 
Just don't place any moist cups on them or the surface will permanently bubble up.

Easy to assemble and looks nice

I needed a small cabinet to hold laundry supplies but could not have a shelf overhead.  This little cabinet fit perfectly beside my tall washer/dryer and fit perfectly.  Very pleased with product.  The laundry products fit on the shelves and I have a beautiful flower arrangement on top.  Very nice.

the backing of this bookcase is cardboard and is a waste. I used the free paint stir sticks you get from home depot and nailed them across the corners and sawed them down and sanded for a cleaner finish to make the shelf more stable. It's about time mainstay upgraded their design to include this element in the set. Otherwise don't expect this thing to hold the weight of books and survive past a year. But when it comes to a great budget friendly item, it's an excellent choice. I highly recommend putting  something across the back corners to truly get the most for your money.

Good but could be better

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Good enough for its price. Wish that the back panel of the shelf was particle board like all the other pieces instead of cardboard. Wish that the back panel was installed with dowels and screws as well. Didn't really like the nails.

I thought the directions could have been much clearer - much more "specific". in general i.e., "left side top"  "left side bottom" "right side top". "right side bottom" "facing outward, facing inward".  

For shelves "Turn facing inward".  "This side front". "Turn facing back"

For Side Panels the same. Very explicit "outside, inside, up, down, top, bottom".

I had a problem with the holes, because they were not labeled for which screws
to use on the product itself, and the holes were not aligned correctly in any event. 
even though your pamphlet labels all of the items, when assembly time comes, the shelf itself needs to be labeled.  :(

This would have saved me a great deal of time.  It wasn't rocket science, true, but
I have never assembled a bookcase before, so I needed very specific instructions.  I spent  too much time trying to lay the pieces on the floor and figure out what went where, even
though there were some instructions.

I don't know. This may seem repetitive to you, but I call it "clear" instructions. 

Otherwise, the product is nice, sturdy and attractive.  I like it and the pricing made a big difference.  I am a senior, so I appreciate modestly priced items that are good quality and that I can afford. Thank you for asking. donna

Mainstays 3-Shelf Bookcase - Assembly

The wooden boards come with pre drilled holes for the dowels and screws. The holes were extremely crooked you aren't able to attach the side of the book shelf or the shelves without out drilling new holes, but then you have empty holes where the screws and dowels were supposed to go. The wood isn't good quality it's all marked up and the baxk of the book shelf is a super thin piece of cardboard. Do not recommend
