[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I had been wanting a candy thermometer for a bit, as I currently just eyeball my the boiling point when making candy. This candy thermometer was larger than I expected, much larger than my meat thermometer. However, it really helps when reading the temperature. I like that it is encased in glass, and seems very well made. It even has the doneness levels listed on the storage tube for the thermometer. That's always helpful to keep close at hand when cooking things. Overall, it's a very nice candy thermometer and I would recommend it!

Very nice candy thermometer

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have used a candy thermometer for years for a variety of cooking needs, but this one is better because it now comes with a protective case to keep it from breaking. That makes is so much easier to store it and it also has the temperatures written on the side of it for easy reference. This thermometer has a variety of uses. Not only is it for candy but you can check temperatures when cooking any liquid in a pan or fryer. That means it is good for frying chicken, turkey, French fries, onion rings, etc. But if you have made much candy, you will find this is a must. There are so many stages of cooking when making candy and this helps you to get your candy perfect. The thermometer is made of sturdy laboratory glass, has a heat resistant knob on the stainless-steel handle that you clip to the side of a pan, and is 8.15 inches long. It has markings in both Fahrenheit and Celsius and can be used in liquid from 100-400 F. It just hangs on the side of the pot so your hands are freed up to stir and cook. It is supposed to be hung with the end at least 2 in. into the pot, but not touching the bottom of the pan. The thermometer reads out very quickly. The directions say it can be cleaned in the dishwasher, but they are referring to the case only. I always hand wash it because it is not to be submerged in water. I just use a soapy rag to wash it off and dry it and put it right away. This is such a great kitchen tool it is a must in every kitchen.

Candy Thermometer Made Better with Case

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Very nice thermometer. Its labeled as a candy thermometer but I have used in to measure my oils to make natural skincare products. It gives a very quick reading. It has a nice clip on the side so you can easily clip it to your container, and the handle can be used to hold it while its hot. It also has convenient suggested temperatures on the side for various foods, and comes with a nice cover to protect while not in use.

Very nice thermometer

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It's so convenient to have a good candy thermometer around! This one is the perfect size to clip onto your pot. It is glass, so you need to store it with care. The thermometer works well and gives an accurate temperature. It's super helpful when making caramel!

Great Little Thermometer

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have never needed a candy thermometer before and had no idea if this was a quality thermometer or not. I was able to make my candy to perfection (could not have been done without the thermometer....I tried twice today already and burned the candy). This product made candy making a breeze. Wish I had just bought one to begin with.

this candy thermometer seems to work just fine even though it's much larger than I expected and it's impossible to dip it 2 and 1/2 in into the candy even in my smallest pot.

Do you own a cauldron?

When making candy the thermometer gets condensation inside which makes reading the thermometer very difficult. We will buy a different design soon.

Difficult to read

It worked well the first time, the second time steam appeared inside the glass. It's difficult to see when you've reached the correct temp, *and there is a lot of squinting to count by increments of five. Other candy thermometers may indicate “soft ball” or “hard ball”, this one doesn't even list off all the numbers.

Candy Thermometer

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was excited to use my new Candy Thermometer. Temperatures range from 100*-400*. I decided to go ahead and make my chocolate fudge. I liked the sturdy clip when I placed it on my pot. I also liked the round wooden knob to have better control without getting burnt. Now what I did not like was the steam that covered the glass thermometer making it impossible to see what temperature the fudge was at. Anyone who makes candy knows there is no in-between temperature! You either hit the right temperature or the candy is ruined. So Glad I had my other thermometer handy just in case.

Epic Dissatisfaction

Mainstays ABS Food Cooking Dial Candy Thermometer, Clip Attachment with Red and Black Display centered front view of a round dial with stainless-steel clip and glass stem probe; protective sheath and heat-resistant knob visible, dual-scale 100–400°F (50–200°C) with six labeled candy zones for candy making and deep-fry reference; clips to pot rim for instant, battery-free readings, often used to monitor frying oil or sugar stages.
