I REALLY liked this book!!!! Where do I even start?

This was the second book in a row that I've read where reconciliation of old relationships was a major theme. I love when people get a second chance at a relationship.

THESE CHARACTERS! Gil was fantastic. I loved that he was named after Gilbert Blythe and he wore the name well. (Yes, I'm aware that he's as fictional as Gilbert Blythe.) The baseball angle was so nice. Baseball is too rarely in books and I loved the little nod to America's Pastime. Ivy was so surprisingly human. She's a super genius, very strong female (you find out just how strong in the story) but she didn't feel out of reach. She was scared. She cried. She hurt. But she didn't let it stop her. I just really liked that. I wish Emily had been around a little bit more but she was terrific in her limited role. Especially how she related to Gil. Such a great sibling relationship. Oh, and I can't forget Ivy's nickname!!!! Blackburn got baseball AND The Princess Bride into one book!

Blackburn did a great job incorporating all the other agents. I really liked the amount of time Luke, Zane, Tessa,

Malicious Intent is the second book in the Defend and Protect series by Lynn H. Blackburn. If you haven't read the first book, Unknown Threat, I highly recommend it. The individual stories can be read independently but you will see all the familiar characters and favorites from book one. There are a number of references to the events from the first book as the characters continue to develop and grow. 
This story focuses on Dr. Ivy Collins and US Secret Service Agent Gil Dixon.  Childhood friends and sweethearts, they haven't seen each other in over fifteen years when family and circumstance tore them apart. When Ivy finds her life in danger, Gil knows he must step in, no matter the cost. Together, they must work to discover why someone is willing to go to any lengths to destroy her business. The answers can only be found in the past and along the way, they just might find the love they thought was lost.
This book grabbed my interest right from the first chapter. You won't be able to put it down. Blackburn has a gift for weaving a plot filled with suspense, romance, and mystery. There are a number of twists and turns that will leave you wondering right up until the end. I particularly loved the characters, not just Gil and Ivy, but their whole team of friends and family. They pull you in and make you want to be a part of their group.
I also loved seeing familiar faces from her Dive Team series. All the characters were well developed. I enjoyed watching Gil and Ivy reconnect and get to know each other in a new way. They each had to move past difficult circumstances from their shared past, learning to forgive and open up with each other. I highly recommend this faith-filled romantic suspense. A must read this March.

Great addition to the Defend and Protect series!

Yikes! If there's one thing I can count on with a Lynn H. Blackburn novel it's that the danger and suspense will be so riveting I won't want to put it down. Malicious Intent was definitely like that. I found myself using every excuse in the book (pun intended) to keep reading even when I really should have been doing other things. 

There was pretty much nothing not to like about Malicious Intent. Lynn H. Blackburn struck the perfect balance between romance and suspense and she successfully kept her characters hopping and readers guessing. And, gosh, were some of the scenes chilling! Better buckle up because this is one fast-paced and action-packed story!

I'll admit that there were times that Ivy kind of annoyed me. I'm sorry, girl, but of course Gil is going to be calling the shots and he doesn't need your inexperienced opinions because this is exactly what he was trained to do. But, seriously, Gil, Ivy has a point and she is quite legitimately in a fragile state right now. Can you tell that I got emotionally invested in the characters from the second Defend And Protect novel, like, really caught up in them? 

I absolutely loved the appearance of some old friends from another series in addition to the Defend And Protect crew. It was a lot of fun, at least for me, them not so much, to get reacquainted and spend a few reading hours with all of them.

If you are looking for a really great romantic suspense book and series I would definitely recommend checking out Malicious Intent and the rest of Lynn H. Blackburn's gripping Defend And Protect novels. They are beyond a shadow of a doubt good reading...

This reunion was not what either had in mind...

Wow. Just wow. 

Can I leave it at that? 

Okay, I would highly advise getting a copy of book one, read it, then read this one. While it could be read as a stand-alone novel, it wouldn't be fair to you to miss all the goodness from book one. Quite a few characters, including the main character Gil, are from book one.

Malicious Intent sucked me in from the first scene, and I did not want to put this book down. Nor did I want it to end. There is so much action, witty banter, friendship rekindled, and so much more.  This is suspense at its finest. Want to know more READ THE BOOK!

Excellent Suspense Novel

"The stack of cash on his desk was as close to genuine currency as squeeze cheese was to Brie."

Starting with this great first line is a highly enjoyable romantic suspense book. This is book two in the "Defend and Protect" series by Lynn H. Blackburn. This series features fictional characters in the North Carolina Secret Service office. 


What many may not realize is that part of the Secret Service employee job description is looking for counterfeiters. From the beginning of this book, they are tracking a money trail. But the conclusions that they are drawing do not make any sense.

This book features childhood friends who have lost track of each other. Gil and Ivy's relationship is SO sweet. Watching them try to find their footing again made for an enjoyable. The storyline is compelling, and personally this is now my favorite Blackburn book.

Trying to determine why and how Ivy was being targeted was definitely puzzling. There were definitely a lot of clues to throw readers off. I might have guessed part of the plot. But a lot of it made me wonder. I definitely did not figure out every detail.

If you have read any of Blackburn books, you will appreciate how many of the characters return. One would expect the characters from Defend and Protect Book 1, "Unknown Threat." But there were also several characters that returned from Blackburn's previous Dive Team Investigations series. As a reader, that adds to the enjoyment of a new series to "see familiar faces" again.

I read this book as a part of the book launch team, so I was provided a copy. I wanted to review the book because I really, really liked it. I definitely recommend this one! All opinions are my own.

Cybercrimes unpredictable romantic suspense

Another great story from Lynn Blackburn. Dr. Ivy Collins, genius extraordinaire, has her own company developing prosthesis. Gil, secret service agent discovers counterfeit money deposited into Ivy's business account. Gil and Ivy haven't seen each other in 15 years. What Gil discovers when he goes to interview Ivy leads to a catastrophic chain of events. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves romantic suspense.

Great Suspense!

Wow!  That's what I said often during the reading of this novel.  This is Lynn Blackburn's best work ever, in my opinion.  Blackburn has simply outdone herself here.  She has a great plot, outstanding characters and a suspense that doesn't stop.  And let's not forget those two main protagonists: Gil Dixon is one of the best heroes and Ivy Collins is pretty much perfect.  If ever two characters were made for each other, these two were.  I love it when I connect with characters so quickly and easily.  No two ways about it: this book is just over the top.  This group of Secret Service and FBI agents are just great.  I loved catching up with some from a previous series, too. They are just so cool!  

If ever I were in a situation where I needed help, I'd definitely choose this group.  Hands down.  Everyone's character is larger than life here, and I love that.  The spiritual thread is amazing, too.  I can't wait for Zane and Tessa's story.  Bravo and well done!!

Outstanding!

It's no secret that I love reading about suspense that includes the alphabet agencies. Ms Blackburn is very adept at writing some of the best suspense out there. I'm glad we get to see characters from her previous books. This adds to the atmosphere of camaraderie and brings a layer of expertise into the picture. 
Ivy and Gil have a long history broken by a painful experience and 15 years of distance. Scary circumstances bring them together again but can past hurts be healed? 
This story had an intriguing and unique premise and enough people with questionable backgrounds to keep you guessing at who was behind the threat. The danger was palpable on every page. “Her week had been surreal. She'd been dropped right into a Salvador Dali painting, where everything she knew was still there but distorted in new and mostly disturbing ways.”
I liked the way that God was never far from Ivy or the agents helping her. “Lord, I don't know what to do, so my eyes are on you.” After all, part of the reason they are the good guys is that they can call on God to sustain them in their risky jobs. 
I thoroughly enjoyed this absorbing, suspenseful tale. I am glad there is more to come in the Defend and Protect series.

Scary situations

I'll start by saying the first book was terrible. It was so boring. I decided to give Blackburn another shot and what I have found is that not only the second book is much better than the first, but that now I have to go buy the third. It just ropes you into the story. YOU NEED TO BUY THIS BOOK BEACSUE IT'S BETTER THAT THE FIRST.

It was nice to revisit the characters from Blackburn's Unknown Threat, the first book in this series, along with characters from her Dive Team Investigations series. This book focuses on US Secret Service Agent Gil Dixon and his childhood best friend, Dr. Ivy Collins. Gil and Ivy are reunited in a very unexpected way when her life is threatened. Gil's team, friends from nearby Carrington's police department, and cybersecurity genius Sabrina Campbell join him in neutralizing this threat. The action is fast paced in Blackburn's latest novel, and the romance is sweet and a nice addition to the story. There are frequent unanticipated events that keep the reader totally engaged. 

I highly recommend Malicious Intent along with Lynn H. Blackburn's previous novels to fans of romantic suspense. I am grateful to have received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell via NetGalley without obligation. All opinions expressed here are my own.
