Enjoying using this smoker as I did my last Masterbuilt smoker (a smaller unit).  It seems to hold the temperature with little adjustments.  I am thoroughly satisfied and looking forward to using it morel

Assembly would have been much quicker had there been text with the diagrams.  This is the XL model, but quite a bit of smoke escapes out of the front door.  Thought I was buying a smoker that I would not have to babysit while it did the job.  Non-soaked wood chips produce more smoke, but I had to constantly feed the chip box during the smoking process, like every 20 minutes.  Went through the entire box of chips trying to smoke a shoulder.

I had one before this one.Same type,same kind..Then I got a pellet grill and wasted $475.00 dollars..That's why I went and got the propane one..

I've had the 40 inch ThermoTemp XL Propane Smoker for about a month and have used it six times. Let me say right off the bat that I love this smoker.  The propane fuel source is great.  It's plenty hot enough, unlike some electric smokers I've had, and it's pretty much hands off, unlike charcoal smokers I've had where you have to keep feeding the coal bed and hope the temperature is right.  

There are some minor annoyances though.  It's a little bit of a pain to assemble.  It took me 2-1/2 hours working alone.. not awful, but not pleasant.  When attaching the legs, there are a couple of bolts/nuts that are very difficult to reach.  There is no place to hang tongs or other tools.  That would be nice to have.  The wood chip box lid is not hinged except by virtue of a "tongue and groove" arrangement.  The lid is a bit hard to open when hot due to the small size of the "handle" provided for that purpose.  So it's easy to get the lid out of wack when adding wood chips.  I made a long tool out of 1x1/16" aluminum flat stock with a hook bent into one end that let's me get under that handle and gently pivot the lid upwards.  That works well.  But a place to hang that tool would, again, be nice to have.

The reason I did not give this five stars is the inaccuracy of the temperature dial.  It is wildly off.  I use a "Smoke" brand dual digital thermometer with one probe attached to the underside of the top rack (close to the integrated probe) so I can read the cabinet temperature directly.  Once the temperature in the cabinet stabilizes, I find I have to set the dial to a little less than 175 degrees to maintain about 225 degrees.  Once stabilized however, the unit does a good job of holding the temperature within about 5 or 10 degrees.  So a little patience up front to achieve the desired temp, pays off over the duration of the cook since once it's right, you never have to adjust it.  That is what I love most, along with the spacious cabinet and excellent build quality.  Also, the dual doors are a great feature.  I never have to open the food compartment during the cook.  So, again, I love this smoker and have recommended it to family and friends.  It's definitely worth the investment.

Love this smoker...mostly.

The door fasteners don't work exactly right. There is some play. When I was looking for a smoker, I saw this was a 30inch so I went and measured a slab of ribs. 30 inches would work great I thought. I thought it meant 30 inches wide. Nope. It's 30 inches tall. You can get a slab in caddy cornered as long as it's not a full grown hog. Maybe a good starter smoker.

So a few years ago I had the two door propane smoker w/out the window. With a minor adjustment (foil in chip pan for no flare ups) I really liked that smoker. When I saw this one I was like "Heck" yeah, my old one with a window in it, and a few more options like the awesome thermostat that works very well and the nice tank gauge. So I asked for it and got it for Xmas. Heres where it all goes a tick down hill... The assembly instructions weren't that great, and the top door isn't level. Ok not that big of a deal, right! So I followed the instructions, and seasoned the smoker, while doing so I wanted to "test it out" lets see how much smoke I can roll outta this thing! Problem is.... it didn't hardly smoke at all the FIRST HOUR thats kinda big deal when it comes to smoking stuff and the timing of it all. So I toyed around with it and got it to work for the first pork shoulder I smoked. BUTTT yet again, I had to do a few adjustments to the equipment. The old style chip pan was huge and had holes in it, almost worked too good. The newly designed chip pan is almost the exact opposite! The pork shoulder turned out good and this thing will do me good for a few years, just wish we didn't have to tweak these things to make them work as they should.

Just a tad disappointed

Even though the shipping box was not damaged, there were several defects in workmanship on receipt of the smoker (poor corner welds, dinged and bent metal surfaces, components that did not fit well together for assembly, certain parts open and free in the box (screws, etc.). While these facts were discouraging, I still needed to get this one set up for a cook. My original delivery was incorrect and had to ship it back and wait to receive this one for weeks. As far as the cook went, I was pleased with the size of the cabinet as well as the performance of the thermostat and gas regulator. This feature worked very well and kept a consistent temperature throughout the cook. Time will tell if the weld/fabrication issues will shorten the life of the smoker.

New Smoker Performs Despite Build Issues

I bought this for my son for a wedding gift. It was back ordered for about a month. My son took it to his house put it together and noticed that the door had a big dent in it, and it had a bad regulator and was leaking propane. Last time I had talked to my son he had not received parts to repair the issue.

This specific item I received was not manufactured correct. After building 90% of it I realized the holes for the racks did not align and is not functional. Had to disassemble and return to Walmart. Reordered the same one and hoping for a better result 🤞🏼

Defective product

After much research I purchased this item as a replacement for our old smoker, unfortunately, this item had some manufacturing defects with the holes for the racks only on one side - glad we didn't wait til summer to put it together and were able to return it to the store. Repurchased the item at a better price on another site and are very pleased with the results
