Maze Runner Blu-ray Disc -  Based on the bestselling novel by James Dashner, this adventure thriller for young adults follows a young boy named Thomas (Dylan O'Brien) who finds himself trapped within a giant, deadly maze with a group of other kids. While he has no memories of his life prior to being in the maze, he is plagued by nightmares about a shadowy organization known only as W.C.K.D., and hopes that these fragments of dreams will help him discover the secrets of his past and a way to escape.

My favorite part about buying this movie is that while I waited for it to arrive at Walmart, I could use the instant digital code they sent me. It was in my mailbox as soon as I paid for the ordered movie. 
I recommend printing out the order number and taking it with you when you go to pick it up. My boyfriend didn't have it with him and they couldn't find it, but as soon as I texted him the order number, they found it right away.

Movie:
The movie itself is really fantastic. It opens up with our main character in a large elevator. He's brought up into the Glade, a very large grassy area with a forest in the middle of a giant stone enclosure. We're told outside of the walls is a huge maze and Runners go out to map it each day. It's takes them all day because the maze changes every night. If they don't return by nightfall, the wall closes up as well as their chances for survival. Nobody has survived a night outside the Glade.

We meet a slew of characters; Alby, the leader, Newt, the second in command, Chuck, a plump boy who is also the youngest of the Gladers, Minho, the leader of the Runners, and Gally, a bullyish character who is the main antagonist.

Our hero, Thomas, is thrust into this world with no memory and no idea who he is. Nobody remembers anything outside their names. Thomas is different from the others because he's curious. He doesn't want to stay and build or garden. He wants to know what's outside in the maze. This causes turmoil in the group.

The next person in the elevator is a girl who says, "Thomas" before passing out. She's the first girl ever in the Glade and she carries a message, "She's the last one ever." Our heroes now get no more supplies. They must figure out a way to escape the maze but the walls don't close that night. This lets in all the Grievers, mechanical beings that roam the maze at night.

Gally wants to sacrifice some Gladers to the Grievers but in the chaos, they escape. The rest of the movie is a crew of main characters navigating the maze while trying to avoid Grievers. I won't spoil the ending but there is a second one coming out in September 2015.

Review:
It's a really good ride but I will warn you that it's bleak. It's not very happy and a lot of people die. I still loved it and if you've read the book, you should like it too. I'm just warning you that it's not your typical adapted from a Young Adult novel where they change it to make everything happy go lucky.

Physical Review:
I love slipcovers and this one has a fairly nice one. It's nothing to write home about but it's OK. Of course, there are stickers on it which ruin my whole life but other than that, it's decent.

The special features are plentiful in here. It comes with a 24 page mini comic that serves as a prequel. Again, it's not a happy one but it's good. I really like that it depicts the beginning of Ben's career as well as what Alby went through before others showed up.

The special features are:
*Audio Commentary by Director Wes Bell and Co-Screenwriter T.S. Nowlin
I actually didn't watch the entire movie with this, I just skipped around a bit but what I heard was really cool. They were very funny together and I plan on listening to it entirely at some point. It's got the typical, "This is what I wanted" as well as "That pig was the bane of my existence". This really adds to the experience.

*Deleted Scenes with optional commentary by Wes Bell
These scenes split. Black and white parts appear in the film while color ones are new. I'm actually kind of sad that some of these aren't in the film. Others make sense not to be included. Definitely check them out. There's about 20 minutes worth so it's worth it. I also really liked how some are unfinished and you can see the screens used for special effects.

The commentary again adds a lot to these as well. Wes really conveys why he cut them and his thoughts. I loved it. He even gives advice to aspiring filmmakers. It's awesome.

*Navigating the Maze: The making of The Maze Runner Documentary
This is a 42 minute documentary broken up into sections with interviews including the author, director, and pretty much everyone else involved. It is very good. I love the energy everyone brought. It doesn't feel tacked on. It looks and feels like they planned on having this the whole time.

*The Chuck Diaries
This is a little documentary type thing about how they cast the role of Chuck. It's really cute and insightful. Follow your dreams, man.

*Gag Reel
I love gag reels. Oh, man, do I love them. This one isn't so much them messing up their lines as it is them goofing around. It's really fun and very cool to see them not so serious.

*Visual Effects Reel
This shows us a side by side comparison of the visual effects used in the film. One screen has the green screen while the other shows the finished product. It's amazing. There's an option for commentary with the director as well but I didn't check that out.

*Ruin short film
I actually saw this when Wes put it out. I had no idea it was the same guy. This short film is animated and looks very much like the Maze Runner. It has nothing to do with the film so don't get confused.

*Still Galleries and Storyboards
I like these because I can see the vision the storyboarder had and compare it to what actually took place on screen. Sometimes it's right on the money and other times it's completely different. I think that's a cool process to see.

I loved this movie but the special features really make this set.
