Can be straightforward, but may require several hours to complete.

Time to build: 6 hours.
Ease of instructions: 8/10 Some pictures were hard to interpret. Make sure you use the instructions!
Ease of actual build 8/10 Some nuts were hard to in place.
Quality of parts and final build 9/10.  Any higher an it would need to be a tank. 
Overall this is a great parent/child build. I mean boys or girls. Do not let the size and complexity overwhelm you. Take each step one by one and it will go well. Try to separate all the parts in cups. It makes finding the right size bolt very easy. After everything is together go back through and ensure each bolt is tight. My kid is now trying to find out what it can do. I recommend for advanced 7 to 8 yo kids but definitely after 9 is good.

I have always had an interest in robotics,  but never saw any kit with the voice recognition and the ability to program.  This kit was perfect, educational and fun to build.  Would be nice to have a greater ability to allow additional programming, but great starter.

Robotics Curiosity

Do not purchase this for a child. Purchased for an adult for a hobby. Lots and lots of parts and screws. Will not be quick  to assemble but is great for someone with a long attention span and attention to detail. Will be awesome to play around with once he's built.

Awesome Christmas present

I purchased this for my nephew's 9th birthday and couldn't be happier. We are still putting it together, but so far the instructions (which look a lot like Lego instructions) have been clear and easy to understand. One of the things that attracted me to the Meccanoid is that you have to build it before you can play with it. I like that it doesn't have that "instant gratification." When it is all together, he can have a great sense of pride knowing that he built it. It is a large project, and you have to go into it knowing that it probably won't be done in a couple of hours....but it can be done. I look forward to seeing the final product and what it can do.

More than just a toy

It took a long time to put together and that made it all the more interesting and fun.   Now he controls it with his voice and the app and it's working great!  Meccanoid is funny too.

This is a great little project, with many parts. The pieces are easily put together and require some knowledge of how things go together. Overall I'd say it is fun and am looking forward to the next one.

I am a robot!

This is an awesome product.  Great for kids that need a challenge!  Only draw back, it really needs a battery pack.  The 4 D batteries drained in a matter of 2 days.

Great product

I purchased this item as a Christmas gift for my husband, he was so excited, he put it together on Christmas Day, it came to life for three seconds and died.  My husband called customer service of the company that made the product and was told that they would send him another brain.  He received the brain and it still doesn't work, from the beginning my husband kept saying that it was a power issue and he was right, he received another battery pack and the robot has been running just fine.

I think this product should be tested (battery pack) before being sent out to be sold to customers.
