After at least 5 years of everyday use building sheds with my old reliable NR83, it had a broken driver and I needed a replacement right away. Until I get the replacement parts which I realize was a new driver, bumper and a gasket I bought a NR83A5(S) 3-1/4" Plastic Collated Framing Nailer (Without Depth Adjustment) Metabo HPT 21degree but It came with a rafter hook (new to me). I wish I had gotten the one with depth adjustment but the store I bought it from did not have one, big plus if you're in the market for one. Also, in the box a pair of goggles, small oiler which I think is important given the fact some brands do not include that.  
I have tried other brands like Porter Cable, Dewalt and Makita framing nailers, also the Cordless Milwalkee 21degree framing nailer but I couldn't deal with the weight, balance or ergonomics of other brands. 
Because I already own 6 other Hitachi/Metabo nailers and staplers I guess I'm inclined to purchase these tools because of the way they shoot, feel in my hand and weigh. 
What I wish Metabo did different, is the tip of the framer nailer being more aggressive so the tip doesn't slip when nailing and the important labels such as the information of the nailer relocated elsewhere in the gun so it doesn't rub or wear off.
Overall I recommend this framing nailer to anyone and I would definitely buy another one.

Bought this nailed to frame a shed. Works like a champ and has saved me hours of work. Used 3 inch nails for framing and 2 3/8 for sheeting. Glad I bought it.

This product works great for framing.

Durability and dependability are the main features here. The metal design is perfect and is hard to bend. This would last for a very long and takes the daily abyse

Great Nailer!

Replaced my old 21° Makita with this bad boy and couldnt be happier! I havent had it jam or shoot back at me like Makita was doing. One thing I'd definitely do after purchasing is making sure to remove the safety pin on the trigger, as toenailing is extremely difficult without the pin removed. Other than that, Hitachi has the best reputation for nailguns on the market for contractors right now. Great gun!

Good Framing Nailgun

I am going to say that to give it a rating it is very early I framing and use Hitachi to do it but I have had the NR83A2 (S) model for 10 years and I can say that this model is a tool that served me very well, instead I bought another NR83A5 model  And it has not had the same relevance since in less than 6 months of 6 months with very little use it has decomposed 2 times and in less than 1 year 4 times and without giving it the use that I give to the Model NR83A2 (S) now  I bought the model NR83A5 (S) and I noticed that you have to put a little more force and pressure in the blow so that the nail comes out in difference to the NR83A2 (S) in the NR83A5 it is a little less pressure and force that there is  What to use to nail I can only say that the use that I have given it is not a long time when a year passes I will be able to say what is the quality of this model NR85A5 (S)

To soon to give a 5 start

Works well, wish it had a more aggressive toe-nailing claw for reducing slipping during angled nailing. This unit is bit more in pricey compared to the many other reputable brands out there

NR83A5(S) 3-1/4" Plastic Collated Framing Nailer

I am a first time user of a framing nailer gun.  I thought there were too many nail jams... 21 nails out of 400 nails jammed or 5 percent.   I don't know if this number is good or bad but for a new framer, I was frustrated.

Had the Hitachi model first. Do not us a lot. Oroblems from day one with getting gun in position to fire. Seems to have to much play on safety. Took back and dealer traded gor new verision. (Only notable difference is label). Nee unit has same play in safety. Spend to much time moving around to get it to fire.

Not for sure

Warranty sounds great, but I can't even get the warranty Dept to return an email let alone fix their tools. Hitachi along with most tool manufacturers are sometimes forced to reinvent the wheel for reasons outside their control but their NR83 series has tanked. Triggers and drivers won't last more than 3-6 mths and finding somebody that can actually rebuild the trigger is near impossible. 15 yrs and these are the only guns, I've ever bought. Time to start looking elsewhere.
