[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have been a fan of Atlus rpgs for nearly 25 years. This game really does take what they have learned from the SMT and Persona series and combines them into a great new game. I almost didn't buy it at launch, but it has become one if my favorite games of 2024

Great start to a new series

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Another banger RPG from Atlus, the same folks who produced the ‘Persona' series and ‘Shin Megami Tensei' games, among others.

This time the world is fantastical, with the Atlus trademark style. It contains a battle system very much in the vein of the previously mentioned titles, but with its own spin.

Highly recommended for anyone who wants to sink in about a hundred hours into a meaty RPG adventure!

Atlus does it again!

My son wasn't sure he wanted to prioritize this game over some others, but he purchased it on sale and has been completely immersed in the story and game play. He enjoys games like final fantasy, monster hunter, and lies of P. I hope that helps someone as I am not a gamer and don't know anything more about it.

Granted, I have not finished the game yet, but so far it has been a great experience. Accessibility for all skill levels is there with difficulty choices, so that really helps those that may not have played a game like this (makers of shin megami tensei and persona) The setting is a great change of pace (after tons of outings playing as a high school student) The story has definitely drawn me in already.  The developers finally decided to give your party members options for customizing them (unlike set paths laid out in persona) As a whole it just feels a lot more user friendly than the persona games. I'd go into more detail but I wouldn't want to spoil things for people.
Long story short, if you're a fan of rpgs or just the Shin Megami Tensei/Persona games, I'd definitely give this game a shot. I think there's a demo still available covering the prologue to give you a taste of what's to come.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Looking for an original idea when it's comes to a video game. Metaphor takes the sword and sorcery theme to an interesting new places. A deep, long lasting RPG that provides a unique story as well a new fighting mechanic for those familiar with Atlus games. Ditch the school setting of Persona games and help a commoner unravel the mystery of a Kings attempted assassination.

Game of the Year

If you like persona, or are a turn based rpg fan, this game is a must play. Also, $40 to buy online is an absolute steal.

Just get it

This game is amazing! The persona graphics never appealed to me but this one feels right. Pro tip: Always talk to your Gallica companison to see which of your other compansions would like to chat with you.

Fun game

This game is essentially a fantasy based persona without the monster collecting aspect.  In place of monster collecting, you now have a class system. Additionally, battles have been sped up thanks to the developers eliminating the need to fight lower level enemies.  Now you can just hit them once and get all the exp and items you would have got from a normal turn based encounter.  Below ratings out of 5:

This is probably the best jrpg released in years.  If you like turn based games with a fantasy setting combined with the social aspects of persona, this is a must buy.

RPG of the Year (By a landslide)

I was looking for a new RPG and picked it up because of its GOTY nomination.  I have never played Persona so I can't compare it.   The game is cell shaded; the Human monsters are based on 15th century surrealist painter Boche.  MP points are hard to recover, MP potions are very limited.  your MP replenish only at the end of the day or a major event.  Poor design because all of the 2-character combos you develop consume MP, not just basic magic spells, so you are stuck hacking and slashing until you reach the boss.   This is not a relaxing, work at your own pace RPG.  It is very controlled.  The clock is ticking, and not only do you have to manage MP usage but your time as quest often expire in days. (Hint: squeeze extra quest or two in on the first big 9 day one or you will regret it and make new saves files often.)  The protagonist and his friends are very likeable, the story is amazing, the antagonist, and his scene stealing evil henchmen are perfect.  Well worth playing but it is not like a Final Fantasy or Tales game.  If you enjoy tactics games and games that make you think, then it is for you.

Things to consider

I ordered this PS5 game expecting it to be new, but the listing did not state anywhere that it was new, resealed, or used. What I received was a resealed copy that had clearly been opened before. The lack of any disclosure about the condition is misleading and unacceptable, especially for collectors or anyone expecting a genuine new product.

Buyers should be aware that this seller does not provide accurate information about item condition, and I hope Walmart enforces proper marketplace standards to prevent others from being misled.
