Ease Of Installation

Microsoft recognized the update as Genuine. I upgraded the first vista computer without too much difficulty. The second was a wrestling match. I ended up doing a full  Windows 7  install from the disc which was successful also. Still one to go. Time consuming, but vista support ends in April...

I hate change. Fundamentally. Have to be forced (or tricked) into upgrading anything about the office systems. They work fine, don't mess with them, they might rebel is my theory; however, when one of the PC's gave up the ghost recently, the one I bought to replace it had, guess what: Windows 7 OS. Needless to say, 7 & XP (which every other machine in the office was running) don't play nice together. 7 is speedy and gregarious, XP was balky & pouty. Thus came the decision to upgrade the rest to W7. This package deal was awesome: 3 systems for the price of one. What could be better, right? Well! Let me tell you, I spent a full Sunday making this happen, because I was afraid I'd lose a day's work doing it during office hours. Turns out I was right.
First, in tiny print on the package, you discover that upgrading XP to W7 causes a complete wipe of your system (including your "Favorites"!!), so plan on lots of time backing up.
Also, be prepared to invest time learning about homegroups and networking if you want more than one system to share files.
Some strange things I've had to get used to: "My Documents" hides in "Libraries" sometimes, and other times, it's front and center, and you can't make-drag-hide toolbars like in XP (but "Pin to Start" & "Pin to Taskbar" are GREAT!) but the themes and desktop manipulation has been great. Love the customization 7 allows.
Overall W7 is turning out to be an upgrade I can not only live with, but become more productive with. No regrets.

Unenthusiastic Upgrader

I've been using Windows 7 since beta (7-8 months) and have been thoroughly impressed by the improvements over Vista and XP. I pre-ordered Professional for my computer and I'm going to purchase this Family Pack for the rest of the machines in our home. This is a great upgrade and is well worth the expense, especially if you have a fairly new Vista computer. You should notice an increase in speed and responsiveness when moving from Vista to 7, even on the same hardware. It's also, in my opinion, much easier to use than Vista; more intuitive overall and has some really nice usability features.

The Best Windows... by miles!

I was some what dismayed at the thought of upgrading to a new Operating System. For months I said"NO", until Windows release date. The market began to expose what Microsoft had to offer. Windows 7 Home Family Pack is ideal for installation on 3 PC's. It was a good idea, that Microsoft did not over price the home user. An affordable price at $149.

Much better than Windows Vista. Had nothing but problems with it. Used Beta version of Windows 7 when it first came out. Am buying the 3 computer deal for the rest of my computers.

Great improvemnent!

i purchased this first and foremost because it is such a great deal (for 3 pc's).
Install was easy. Even after i did a clean install (which wipes everything clean) and i realized i didn't back up one of my files, I found it in windows.old and could just copy it to the new windows 7. sofar no problems with the new software either. love it :-)

Great Deal

Microsoft advisor that scanned my vista system stated upgrade would be no problem with my Toshiba laptop. Wrong--- Window 7 upgrade could not read 7 internal drives, ended up taking sytem to shop and spent another $100. In the long run may have less painful to buy a new laptop with Window 7 already installed.

frustrating product

The Windows 7 Family Pack includes two DVDs, the 32 bit and 64 bit editions and a single product key that can be used for up to 3 different machines. That is basically $50 per install vs $119 purchased individually.

With the Windows Easy Transfer (included in Vista and availabe as a download for XP), a clean install is easier than ever. I have have run Windows 7 for over a year, beginning with the open beta and through the release candidate. I have had no compatibility issues with anything, and this version of Windows is the most intuitive operating system I've used.

I'm currently running Windows 7 Home Premium on three machines. I have it running on a Core2Quad desktop gaming machine, a Core2Duo laptop, and an Nvidia Ion (Intel Atom) home theater machine. It works very well on all three machines. I originally built the home theater PC as a Linux box, but streaming video and general operation was better with Windows 7 than it was with Ubuntu Netbook Remix.

Windows 7 goodness

Windows 7 is a major improvement on Vista. It is very user friendly. It is also less draining on the CPU and memory than Vista is at this time. I highly recommend the upgrade and the family pack will save you money. Most households have more than one computer these days and this is a very good value.
