I recently went to the doctor with back and shoulder pain. I am a Security Officer and required to sit for long periods of time. My doctor suggested a chair with lumbar support. After purchasing this chair and using it everyday at work,the pain in my back and shoulder has greatly improved. I would recommend this product.

Great Back Support

In general the chair is suitable. the foot rest ring could be larger so you can touch it without having to bend your knee back under the seat. However, the foot rest really isn't necessary.
I liked the height and adjustable back. Instructions are not detailed in some assembly, and also in the adjustment lever for the adjustable back.

The chair appears well made for the price and is as described online. If I were ordering again, I would order more of these.
Assembly:
Assembly is strait-forward for the most part. I ordered two chairs...the first took maybe 20+ minutes to assemble, the second less than 15.
However, the instructions are for a different version of the chair -- for the non-drafting style, shorter with no foot ring and no armrests. Thus you have to follow your mechanical sensibilities to complete assembly. The only odd step involves adding the seat-post extension... it goes on the bottom of the main seat-post, with the rounded end downwards, fitting into the base.

Nice chairs...don't rely on assembly instructions

The chair is asadvertised. Thre comments:
1. Pood directions for assembly. If you are one that is locked into doing as told, you will never get it assembled and you will always wonder what the extra paerts are for.

2. The seat is a bit short, but firm enough allow comfort.

3. Once you figure out how to assemble - do not over tighten the screws. The base material is flimsy (it is a budget chair after all), you can rip the attachement point out of the base.

Not a bad choice.....

Came with instructions for a different chair. Had to assume on how it goes together. Back of chair was broken at the screw holder. The best thing was I could return to local Walmart store. Ordered a different chair.

Did not work for me

Bought for my daughter's classroom. Instead of standing, I purchased this for her so that she could be sitting "on top" of the class!

So far, she loves it because she can see the whole class.

The only thing that I saw that could improve is the plastic pieces-----could be a bit stronger....

Just had it for about 2 wks now, so it's hard for me to review much, just yet.

Great for the price!

I like this product. It is better than I expected for the price. The only problem I had is that it came with instructions for the regular version and not the drafting stool, so that although it was not very compclicated to put together I did have to figure out some of the extra pieces on my own.

This is a cheaply constructed, medium to low quality chair. But it is what one should expect in this price range. Overall, it is a pretty good product for the money. With regular use I would expect it to not last more than a few years, if that. I would have given it 4 stars except for the ridiculous instructions and the fact that the adjustment screw for the footrest was missing from the box.

This is a variation of some other chairs Wal-mart sells on their site. This chair comes with and without the armrests and is also available in a non-drafting-stool version. For all of these chairs the cushions, the wheel base, and the gas cartridge are the same. As others have pointed out, the problem is that they only ship one inadequate half-page of assembly instructions for every chair, and they are the instructions for the non-drafting version. The picture on the box is no help either because it also is the wrong picture! So be careful when you start to put it together. Do not follow the instructions per se. Plan out the assembly ahead of time. Lay out all the parts and make sure you are going to be able to make them work, because if you start off wrong some of them won't come apart again.

For example, the instructions say to put the gas cartridge into the wheel base. Don't do it! Put the extension tube into the base, slide the footrest over it, and THEN put the gas cartridge into the extension tube. The extension tube and footrest aren't even shown on the instruction sheet (nor are the armrests). Be careful which screws you use where. They don't match the number or description on the instructions.

Fortunately I have some jars of nuts and bolts in the garage and was able to find a bolt to use to keep the footrest in place. Without the missing bolt it just slides to the bottom and spins around the wheel base. Since only one screw holds this footrest in place, and the threads are few in the base, it will probably strip out after one or two adjustments so be careful and get it where you want it the first time.

In conclusion, I wasn't expecting much and I got about what I would expect. This chair is going to be OK for my occasional use. I didn't want to shell out a lot of cash for a quality chair I wasn't going to use much, so I am satisfied with it.

Got what I paid for (almost)

I got this chair to help my back while sitting at a guard gate for hours on end. Overall its a good product and hasn't shown any signs of cheap design except in one function, the foot rest. This part slips over the center bar and then you use a hand screw to tighten in place. The center piece is plastic so you cant put to much pressure on it or it'll crack. It also slips and comes loose if you actually use the thing more than a few times. As of right now I've given up trying to get the thing to even stay in place and have removed it from the chair entirely. Everything else works as it should, but toss the foot rest in the trash.

I took a chance and got burned really bad on this chair -- the reviews were mixed and I now know why. The directions for this drafting stool will come with directions for a similar-looking standard office chair and you must intuit a few steps since this is a drafting chair, and therefore has a few extra parts since it telescopes up.

After we finally got it together feeling our way forward (due to the wrong directions in the box) we found out the chair would not stay up due to something being wrong with the hydraulic, which of course you can't get to unless you really know what you're doing, and I'm not ashamed to admit I don't.

The best part of this experience was Wal-Mart -- I took the chair back fully assembled and they asked no questions and gave me a full refund. I purchased a different chair from a different vendor.
