[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] As always Minn kota  blew it out of the water! This auto anchor is by far the best option that was available for my boat. With the auto stop you know exactly when it touches bottom. Awesome product once again!

Use a 20lb anchor

This is the second Minn Kota Deckhand 40 anchor winch that I have purchased.  I purchased my first one a few months ago and installed it on the stern of my 17 foot bass boat.  The stern anchor winch worked so well that I bought a second one and installed it on the bow of my boat.  I also have the remote switch for each anchor winch located on my control console.

 I first tried using a 20 pound river anchor on the stern anchor winch, but found that it would not hold my boat if the wind was blowing.  The lake that I fish has a clay bottom and I think the river anchor was sliding on the bottom of the lake.  I strapped a 10 pound bar bell weight to the bottom of the 20 pound river anchor and it now holds my boat very well.  The Deckhand 40 easily lifts the 30 pounds of anchor weight.

 I often fish for trout, catfish and stripped bass using two anchors to keep the boat from moving around.   I am over 65 years old and pulling up two anchors every time I moved to a different fishing location was not fun.  The Deckhand 40's are a great addition to my boat.

Strong anchor winch

Cost savings

Second one, they are a life saver no more having to bust your arms pulling up a ancor every to me you want to move.

Greatest  thing since sliced bread.

The Minn Kota Deckhand 40 Anchor Winch works just fine. However, when installing the unit, to my disappointment, I found the power cable to be ridiculously short. The remedy for that was to buy a longer cable (20 feet @ 35.99) in order to reach my desired location. The winch has a "Up/Down" switch on it, but if you want to activate it from your console, the remote cable is also an extra charge you'll be paying.

Hidden Extra Costs

I found that it takes alot of battery power. If you hook it up to the same battery as your fish finder, it will shut the fish finder down when you engage the anchor. I have to shut off the fish finder before I engage the anchor. It is very large. I have it placed in the front of my boat, and it takes alot of space. I purchased the remote, and that is a good item to have on the steering panel. I put a 20 pound navy anchor on it and it works to pull it up. I can't imagine a 40 pound anchor on it. I also purchased the slip plate which allows me to remove it. Glad I did since I do not need it on the small lakes we fish in the summer. Gives me alot of flexibility.

Works well

I fish in a small swift middle Tennessee river. This makes it so easy to stay on the shoals. The 30 lb. river anchor and remote switch work perfectly on my 1652jc boat with 60/40 jet.

I have used it once and was impressed. I also purchased the corded remote. I have to say it is nice not to have to walk up to the bow of my boat and drop an anchor in and then walk back up and pull it up. Now with the flick of a switch anchor goes up or down. This means more time fishing, also easier to move from spot to spot. The only thing I didn't like about it was the install. There has to be an easier way, instead of taking off the cover and disconnecting wires just to mount it. Cover did not go back on as easy as it came off.

Works great!

It will not drop the anchor. It stops on the way down. I replaced remote switch and it still would not work right. Minnkota is hard to talk to for help. My last Minnkota anchor winch.
