We dump the bag into a large bin, and add several gallons of water, stirring and fluffing until it absorbs. Then we add a small amount (several tablespoons) of the water retaining crystals. And THEN we add in three bags of standard Miracle Gro potting soil. This has been our go-to for flowers and any veggies we grow in containers. The Expand 'n Gro allows our potting soil to go farther than it might otherwise, and the water crystals keep the pots from drying out. I have everything from green beans to corn - AND many flowering plants and herbs - in containers, and we have thus far always been thrilled with the results we get!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] After experiencing a late frost my tomato plants took a hit. They survived but that is all I could say about them. I decided to add in some of this product to my current soil. About a week later I left on vacation. Upon my return I thought someone had removed my plants and replanted some big healthy tomato plants. Wow is all I can say about my plants now. We have been enjoying tomatoes ever since.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Last fall I brought in my Ivy Geranium and let it go dormant. This spring I decided to plant it in my flower bed using Miracle Gro Expand'nGro. It had very few leaves and no blooms when planted. Now it is thriving! Since that plant did so well I decided to try another. I bought a potted New Guinea Impatient from a grocery store that was late season on sale. I planted it in clay soil and mixed in the Expand 'nGro. It broke up the clay soil and made a great bed for my plant. Now it is also giving me some beautiful flowers. I included pictures of both. I have plenty of Expand 'nGro left, since a little goes a long way, and plan to do some pots for my deck. Much easier than buying a heavy bag of soil and having to add peat moss and perlite. I do recommend this product!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Another great product from MiracleGro!  Now concentrated and expanding which reduces watering frequency allowing more time to sit back and enjoy!  Especially helpful with the protracted drought and extreme temperatures we are experiencing.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got the new expand and gro soil from miracle gro this weekend and was eager to see what it was all about.  The instructions were easy to follow and the soil expanded like the bag claimed it would.  However the additional chore of mixing the soil and water put me off as I prefer to just fill my pots, put the plants in and watch them grow.  If you are looking for something lightweight and easy to handle though this product might be right for you.

Wish I would have found this product a long time ago. I would have flowers all over the place.  I don't worry about watering.

New for my plamts.

I purchased this soil as I have back issues and the lighter bag was appealing.  I was disappointed that there were no practical instructions other than "fill pot 1/3 and add water - mix and wait to expand" essentially.  So,I turned to Chat GPT for help.

Per that advice, I've added 1.5 bags to each 10 gal grow bag and added 1.5 gallons water gradually - mixing well each time water added.  This expanded the soil to fill about 1/2 of each grow bag.  It's been over an hour now and still no further expansion.  I've fluffed up again, and still no additional expansion.  The soil still feels wet - so I'll leave it overnight and I hope to wake up to see fully expanded soil.  Per Chat GPT the 1.5 bags should fill the grow bags leaving about 2" at the top.

So - 3 stars for the light-weight nature of the soil and good name of Miracle Gro.  Minus the 2 stars for lack of helpful directions and the fact it's not performing as expected.
