We buy this every year for the new season. Unlike some in the reviews, we've never been disappointed... but I think we use this product differently.



We dump the bag into a large bin, and add several gallons of water, stirring and fluffing until it absorbs. Then we add a small amount (several tablespoons) of the water retaining crystals. And THEN we add in three bags of standard Miracle Gro potting soil. This has been our go-to for flowers and any veggies we grow in containers. The Expand 'n Gro allows our potting soil to go farther than it might otherwise, and the water crystals keep the pots from drying out. I have everything from green beans to corn - AND many flowering plants and herbs - in containers, and we have thus far always been thrilled with the results we get!

I tried it in some indoor plants I have because I can't use it outside right now because on winter but when it becomes warm I will for sure use this for my potted plants. It does everything that it is suppose to do it expands really nice and is cool to watch. Also I got this product for free to review and test out and all of my words are mine.

Great mixture

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Received a sample of the Miracle-Gro Expand 'n Gro Concentrated Planting Mix, and loved the product. I had three one gallon drift roses to plant in my clay rich, Texas soil. One bag had enough product to plant all three roses with a little potting mix in the hole, and on top. The mix helped a lot with ensuring the roses got a good start with the right amount of moisture in the Texas Summer heat (100 degree temp afternoons).

Mix truly expands

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Repotted (2) plants that I recently bought and I absolutely love this soil. It expands when you water it and does not make your pots heavy. I have several large plants that I put out on my patio for the summer. They are very heavy with the current soil. I will be replacing their soil this this mix this spring.

After I received the Miracle-Gro Expand 'n Gro Concentrated Planting Mix, it was about a week when I noticed buds. A few days later blooms appeared.

Wish I would have found this product a long time ago. I would have flowers all over the place.  I don't worry about watering.

New for my plamts.

I purchased this soil as I have back issues and the lighter bag was appealing.  I was disappointed that there were no practical instructions other than "fill pot 1/3 and add water - mix and wait to expand" essentially.  So,I turned to Chat GPT for help.

Per that advice, I've added 1.5 bags to each 10 gal grow bag and added 1.5 gallons water gradually - mixing well each time water added.  This expanded the soil to fill about 1/2 of each grow bag.  It's been over an hour now and still no further expansion.  I've fluffed up again, and still no additional expansion.  The soil still feels wet - so I'll leave it overnight and I hope to wake up to see fully expanded soil.  Per Chat GPT the 1.5 bags should fill the grow bags leaving about 2" at the top.

So - 3 stars for the light-weight nature of the soil and good name of Miracle Gro.  Minus the 2 stars for lack of helpful directions and the fact it's not performing as expected.
