I use these shoes during training and for daily walks with my dog. I will also take the shoes for a 150 mile bike ride this September in France. Since we ride regular bikes, not mountain bikes, these shoes will be great. I used my old pair of Mizunos in 2019 and 2018 on bike rides in Belgium and Italy.

It's a great shoe - I miss the super wide toe baskets that old Mizunos were famous for, but these are great. They have a low drop (low angle from heel to toe) and are a great "minimal-ish" long distance shoe. They're not bulky but not too minimal. They're juuuuust right! I will wear them when I run a full marathon in September. I've worn them twice now on short 5 mile runs and they felt broken in right out of the box. I have a bunyon on my right big toe and they are roomy enough to not irritate it and there's no rubbing, etc. It's a great all around shoe. Definitely will be wearing them on longer runs! Regarding sizing, always order your Mizunos a half size larger. I'm a small woman - 5 ft tall, 105 pounds and usually wear a size 6. All my Mizunos are 6.5s and I have TINY feet! They definitely run small!

This is a great shoe for sure. The toe could be a little roomier - I miss the really wide toe basket that old Mizunos were famous for, but this is a really comfortable running shoe and made well. I'm training for a marathon so this is a great combination of minimal and cushion. I've worn them twice for short 5 mile runs and they feel broken in already! These ones in particular have a low drop (minimal rise from heel to toe) and are great for those of us that run on the ball of the foot. I think if you were a heel striker, these would be comfy as well. All around great shoe - I will wear them for the full marathon when I run it in September!

Still a favorite!

I was a very loyal Sayonara buyer & was disappointed when it was discontinued. Took a chance ordering these but the Wave Shadow is very similar in fit & feeling to the Sayonara. Need some breaking in but so far I love them! Also shipping was incredibly fast, considering I'm in Canada.

Great Replacement for Sayonara

use these shoes for running and exercise. very comfortable. great fit minus heel lifts at times but it is really hard for me to call athletic shoes comfortable. i tend to twist my ankle a lot and find these shoes fairly stable will see if it stands the test of time.

Additionally, it arrived a week earlier than anticipated!  I can't say enough positive about ordering this shoe directly from Mizuno.

I received these shoes to review for free, and had high hopes! I have been searching for my "go to" Mizuno shoe for daily training runs since the Sayonara and Catalyst retired. I have run in versions 1 and 2 of the Shadow, and version 3 felt in some ways like a combination. It has a relatively seamless upper, which I appreciate, but it is stiff and narrow, especially in the toe box, compared to previous versions and other lightweight, neutral trainers I have been wearing lately. The base is also very stiff and didn't become anymore flexible over the course of a 9 mile easy run. My calves started tightening up about 5 miles in, which doesn't happen with more responsive, flexible shoes. Overall, these shoes are too firm for my current needs. I prefer a shoe that is more flexible on the upper and provides more cushioning on the landing. But I think they could be a great daily trainer for other runners.

Not for me, but maybe for others

I have purchased this brand for many years at Marathon sports and been very happy, this pair of sneakers is not comfortable at all and I am very disappointed with this purchase. The sole is hard and narrow, much different from the running shoes I have purchased in the past. My feet cramp up after walking a couple miles and running is not comfortable at all

Not what I was hoping for

As the title suggests I was pleasantly surprised when wearing these shoes. Other Mizuno shoes I'd run in had been uncomfortable, seemed heavy, and made my feet burn the whole way. These were almost the complete opposite. No shoe is going to have a perfect first run, but my feet didn't burn and aside from some early discomfort around my Achilles they turned into a really pleasant ride. They have cushioning, but are by no means "squishy." Overall I'd say that they are a good everyday training shoe. They are definitely designed for people with stronger feet who are looking for a little less support and cushion from the shoe. While they aren't a trail shoe, I would note that they do not clear water. I happened to run the in the rain one day and these were like a sponge absorbing water.
For sizing I usually wear a women's 7.5 in adidas and had to go a half size up for these.
