i tried both types of hoses, hooking a 20lb propane tank to a mr. heater portable buddy. The type with the o ring on the tank side of the hose works. 
The type without the o ring on the tank side of the hose DID NOT work

with the O ring on the tank side of the hose

It's good with no leaks.  Very easy to use.

the only problem with this product is the little, black,  spinning thing that tightens the bolt.  i have 2 of these hoses and that black spinner broke into 2 or 3 pieces on both of them. i have to use pliers to tighten the bolt the entire way. it's not that big a deal, for the money. it is what it is. 
it's maybe/probably a better idea to buy the hose with the gas meter. it has a much better built in tightener. (idk if ‘tightener' is a word lol, but you know what i mean). it's just a bit more expensive. if you don't care about the money, go for the one with the meter. if you do care, and have a decent pair of pliers, (you Will need them), get this hose. bc other than that black spinner, it's a good option

Pilot keeps going out n wasting fuel. Dont need to blowup in the fumes
