Since I had my camera, I wanted a prime lens to use most of the time without changing lenses all the time. This 35 mm. lens gets most of the frames I want anyway without zooming in or out. The fact is this lens works in lower light without the use of a flash, since I rather have natural lighting anyway, makes it a plus. I think this lens is an around useful, just for taking photos at weddings and family gatherings. Works great for outside scenic shots the best, I think. Does an all around great job indoors too with or without flash. Since there is no zoom on this lens I have to walk back and forth a little more for the shot I am looking for, but that's OK with me.
When I want to get creative, I end up taking this lens off for something a little more X power. Telephoto lenses have that kind edge on my type of photography.
I am very happy with this 35 mm. useful lens and it stays on my camera most of the time.
Comes with a lens hood and a pouch for storage. The 18- 55 mm. just fits inside the pouch and it does closeup. That's the lens that came with the camera and that's the one that gets stored, I like this 35 mm. better. Its worth the money.

This is a decent lens that does exactly what I got it for. Since going digital I have been satisfied with the good quality of the kit lenses, and the results are basically acceptable, but I realized zooming all the time had spoiled me. "Wearing" this normal prime has returned a sense of involvement in scenes, particularly with people. I had become lazy in my shooting. Candids have their place, but nothing beats confrontation with my subjects. The bokeh is okay and the low light capability worth the money.

Good value on a fast lens.

I've been wanting a fixed wide angle lenses for some time now. After purchasing a Nikon D7100 to replace my D3100. And borrowing my friends 35mm f/1.8G AF-S lenses I knew I had to get it. The clarity and sharpness is very good. In fact, for a lenses at this price range it is almost astounding. I have taken about 100 shots with it so far. Mostly at a car show under bright sunlight. I noted no undesirable effects caused by the lenses. No chromatic aberration or vignetting. I did see some sun flare, which under these conditions was to be expected. I may try to use a larger hood the next time out. The only drawback I encountered with this lenses was I could not get all of the subject in the frame at times due to the tight quarters the car show had. I should have brought along my 18-140 in case of this. I do strongly recommend this lenses.

Great prime lenses

I bought it a few weeks ago and took on a trip to Chicago. Fantastic picture quality. Top notch speed and sharpness. Thus cropping causes no visible loss in quality  Very good in 
low light, indoor or night shooting .

High quality lens at affordable price

The Nikon 35mm f/1.8 lens is producing some very good images. I'm gradually learning its ins and outs as well as relearning how to photograph with a prime lens as I did when I used film cameras. Also, the lens is more discreet than the two kit zoom lenses.

I'm including a photo or a rose taken in the evening on a very cloudy day.

Good prime lens for DX

The lens is absolutely amazing for the price. Even not taking into account the fact that the lens only costs $200, the image quality is excellent! Photos are very, very sharp. Furthermore, with a maximum aperture of f/1.8, the lens is fast enough to produce excellent results indoors.

Excellent Lens!

Simply put, this lens is amazing. No matter what level of photographer you are, I believe that this prime has a place in your bag, if not, then fixed to the front of your camera 90% of the time. You can shoot from dawn to dusk without any need of any other light sources.

You just can't beat this amazing deal. Sharpness, bokeh, speed... amazing.

One of Nikon's best values

Bokeh!!! Makes your pictures look awesome. This prime lens will also force you to compose your shots with the convenience of zoom, so step in or step out, move around a bit, and shoot.

Video is just as amazing as the photos. Shot 60% of a wedding with this lens. First time shooting video so I was still figuring out the focal range.

Step away from the Kit Lens. Perfect starter.

After reading the reviews I was really excited to try this lens but was really disappointing. !. I have a D3200 and I just could not get the autofocus to do its job. it would only focus on small areas (even with higher aperture settings). The 1.8 setting produced images so soft they were virtually useless. Granted I was shooting a moving child not a still object but the standard lens had no problem holding focus 2. Lots of chromatic aberrations (hot pink outlines on lots of surfaces at lower than 2.8f) It is a waste of time to have to correct all of these even if you can do it in the camera 3. I have better shots with the standard lens that came with the camera. I can edit them in photoshop to enhance the color balance and remove some of the shadows that this lens would have fixed if it had focused properly. I am really dissapointed!! and this lens is going back to the store!!
