As a mountain guide who relies on down for every summit and every cold, alpine night, Nikwax is the only thing I every wash and treat my down with. Since I always do it together, washing my down and re-waterproofing it, it saves me some money to just buy the pack of them together! It helps clean my jackets which definitely start to smell after too many 16-hr summit days and the Down Proof gives them back their water-resistancy so they don't wet out and pack down as quickly, which is down's only weakness that it doesn't insulate as well when wet. Really nice to have peace of mind when it comes to my EXPENSIVE down gear. I always worried about it. When I found this stuff for the first time it was a game changer. Being able to wash it good and help improve the water resistance is huge. Down is fragile and take TLC. This brand knows how to give down what it needs. I enjoy it and will continue to use this to invest in my gear for the long term.

I cleaned over 50 Osprey Bags after a full summer of use. This product cleaned the bags well and restored brightness of color. The detergent has a decent smell to it, but would love a bit more if possible. Used the soft shell proof to proof the rain covers. Easy to understand how to use for both beginners and experts. This is a great product! I recommend it to anyone who is active and loves the outdoors.

breathed life back into my sleeping bag thats getting older. fewer clumps and better loft. definitely would recommend for extending the life of your down gear. also nice that it comes in a bundle.

Brought new life back to old gear

5 stars for the Down Wash.
With the Down Proof I've washed several jackets. Two of them were not filled with treated down feathers. The Nikwax website states Down Proof is recommended for "all other down clothing and sleeping bags". So I thought I'd try to add the down-proofing to my jackets.
Both jackets were treated in a front loading washer and dried on low/air with wool dryer balls. The lower quality down jacket turned out fine after one round of drying. The higher fill power down jacket came out with a lot of clumped down after one round of drying/fluffing. A second round in the dryer did a bit better, but was still a bit clumpy. Additionally, The jacket fabric looked more glossy after treatment.
I've been wearing the jacket with the clumpy down in hopes that the down will release and fill the thin spots.

The Wash is Excellent. The Down Proof has mixed results.

Similar to other Nickwax or even Gearaid products, the mild formulas do a great job of protecting the DWR coatings and extending the longevity of our expensive outdoor gear. However, this comes at the expense of not penetrating the fibers deeply enough to remove pesky campfire smoke scents. Nevertheless, this product does a fantastic job and has kept my dad's vintage (1980s) down hunting gear functioning flawlessly season after season.
