Some details first, then the pros and cons.

I've never had good luck with products that have built-in rechargeable batteries. The batteries in such devices don't last long in my experience (lucky to get a year out of them), and when the battery dies the device normally can't be restored to working order. So: when I began looking at lights for my new bicycle I looked at lights that use standard size replaceable batteries.

(Note: replaceable batteries are also very useful for multi-day stays in the wilderness, as you can simply bring along extra batteries to places where no recharging is available.)

I HAVE had great luck with Eneloop rechargeable AA and AAA batteries. With a good charger, they last years and years.

I'm mostly interested in daytime urban riding, though I expect I'll be riding in pre-dawn conditions during Winter months. SO: I don't need a super-bright headlight for nighttime riding, but I DO need bright safety blinking lights for daytime riding.

These are really bright. Even the AAA-powered red taillight is so bright that it's painful to look straight into it. I haven't tried them on a very bright day yet, but I feel pretty sure that the blinking lights will be very visible to motorists.

PROS
- I'm very satisfied with the amount of brightness (even though the headlight might not be bright enough for see-well-ahead nighttime riding)
- replaceable, normal batteries
- work great with Eneloops
- simply attachment mechanisms (not necessarily EASY, it takes a little strength to get them attached securely, but simple to figure out)
- attach securely to my handle bars and to my seat post
- lots of different "modes", including blinking mode for both, and high and low beam for headlight

Con
- a little pricier than many of the competing built-in-battery jobs...but again: I see the replaceable battery feature as well worth the cost
- not as bright as most of the built-in-battery jobs, which might be an issue if you plan on doing regular nighttime riding in areas without street lights

Uses normal, replaceable batteries! Very bright!
