This is the halogen torchiere floor lamp you remember from 20 years ago. They have added a grill on top of the bulb to reduce the fire hazard, but it's your choice whether you install the grill or not. Also, you can replace the provided 190W bulb with a 300W bulb if you want the brightness you remember--bulbs are available at any store with a decent selection of light bulbs. The finish on the lamp is not that durable, so it will scratch and dent if abused. However, it looks nice enough out of the box.

I wanted a lamp that was able to dim, and this lamp does. The connection at the top joint was put together a little off, so it sits a little crooked and to one side. However, it's not terribly crooked and I don't notice it now after having it a couple of weeks. Would also prefer a regular light bulb, but the halogen puts off a really nice light.

Nice Lamp

I've been using these lamps for years and have always been happy. Unfortunately, the federal government has decided to take care of me again without my consent and they no longer permit sale of these as 300 watt lamps. This lamp is good, just not as bright. One lamp used to light up a room adequately to read. Now if the room isn't very small, you need two.

I may try replacing the bulb and see if that works even though the lamp is officially only rated for 190 watts.

Good lighting ... modern looking

I had an old lamp exactly like this one, and needed a replacement; and I'm happy to report that this one was actually better than the original. The old lamp had on fittings that was slightly crooked and made the whole lamp look slightly off kilter, but this time I was VERY careful to make sure I threaded the parts together so they would not cross thread and come out badly. The threads are very fine, and you have to be careful to hold the parts perfectly in line so they go together straight.

I wished I had looked longer to see if I could get a 300 W lamp, because I liked to turn it up occasionally for certain work. However this lamp is about half power, where I used to put the old one anyway. Some folks may not know that you will save some power by using dimmers. They clip the current in very fast frequency to save on power. Your eyes can't notice this very fast shutting off and turning on of the power by these dimmers. It may not save as much energy as a new CFL, but the quality of light is well worth it. I shouldn't doubt you could dim the light down to a soft light that didn't use more than 35W at any given time. That can save money, and still give you the control you want as well. Very worth while feature in my best estimation!

Oh! I almost forgot! They have added a bug screen on the light, that will finally keep bugs from zapping on the hot lamp bulb and messing up the window on the bottom of the "bowl". I really like this addition, because it lights up brightly and actually helps extend the light reflection around the room to diffuse the light better. Also it casts a cool shadow pattern on the wall near the light. This was also a very well worth while modification on something that hasn't changed essentially in 30 years!

I liked the color...

Original model of this lamp gives fantastic light,lights up the entire room. I have had it for twenty years.At that time it was sold with a 300 watt bulb Yes we added the safety top to prevent drapery from coming into contact with bulb to prevent accidental fire, and never had an issue with any thing catching fire. But manufacturer has changed bulb from 300 watts to 190 watts and it's just not bright enough.

Not bright enough bulb

Went together fairly easy, but when I tried it, I was disappointed. No light! At least not enough light. I specifically chose a halogen lamp because of experience with an earlier version of this lamp. It put out some light!!! Unfortunately, this one doesn't. Boooooooooo!

Not much light for halogen lamp. . . .

This lamp LOOKS just like the 2-3 I had before it, but it's not. The casing and parts may be the same, but the light itself is almost dim. I bought it to replace an old one I had in my family room, with the original halogen lightbulb. This one is maybe 1/4 as bright, and you can't use it for much. It's not even close to being bright enough to read by, and isn't even bright enough to use as a TV lamp. Honestly, the only thing I'd use this for is a night light in a guest room. It's that dim. Really.

Not enough light!

I needed the brightest floor lamp I could find for my home office. Since the product specifications read "190W" I assumed it would be bright. Unfortunately, this floor lamp bulb brightness, to me, looked more like that of a 60W incandescent light bulb.

Not Too Bright

On several attempts to assemble this lamp, my husband and I tried to screw together the pole pieces, however, we couldn't do it. The threading on one of them was very different from the other. Each time we attempted to put them together, they would meet fine at first and then they began to go together crooked, making the pole itself lean to the side and ultimately making the lamp unstable. We tried a variety of angles and stopped and then started on a different day, just to make sure we didn't get frustrated and strip the threads. It was useless and frustrating. We were forced to return the lamp much to my husband's dismay as he really wanted this lamp badly. We had assembled 6 lamps like this over the years and had none of these issues before.

Threading on pole pieces was not adequate

Usually one gets what they pay for. In this case, I didn"t. WHAT A PIECE OF JUNK. Because of the inexpensive price and the fact that the lamp was 190 Watts, I ordered two. I accepted that these would probably not be of the best quality, but I was still VERY disappointed. The finish was silver paint, and even as such, was poorly done. The sections were assembled in the usual manner by threading one shaft into another. The threaded parts were machined crooked causing the lamp to be crooked everywhere they screwed into each other. THE LAMP STOOD CROOKED AT THE BASE AND WAS CROOKED THROUGHOUT ITS' ENTIRE LENGTH! I returned them both. I did not even bother to take the second lamp out of the box. Anyone thinking of ordering this product shouldn't bother!
