I bought this as a gift.  However I have 2 of them of my own and use them for soap making.  I am a hobby soap maker so I only make A gallon or two of the product at a time. This stick blender works well.  I always follow the instruction and do not overwork it.  I have no problems with it overheating that way.  I have also used this stick blender for pureeing and smoothies since I do have 2 of them .  I designate each to it's purpose.  I like that it is on all one type of material and it is also easy to clean.  It is powerful enough for most anything I need it for and fits in my hand well.   A good stick blender for the price.   With all the other options out there I chose to purchase this one again.

I had one I had been using since 2006, and it just now stopped working. I needed a replacement of the same one and was very happy Walmart had it.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I had only seen these on the television cooking shows, but wanted to see how useful it would be for me. When the opportunity arose for me to actually get one, I jumped at the chance. The appearance is deceiving, because the blade element looks rather small. I was further uncertain, when the instructions stipulated that it not be run for more than one minute. The manual says after operating for one minute you must let it rest for three minutes before using again. I thought, wow it will take forever to complete a recipe. NOT SO! This little thing is much more powerful than it appears. My initial use was in the preparation of some sweet potato pies. I thought it would be useful to make the filling a little smoother.
There are only two (2) operating settings, slow pulse and fast pulse. Since I was new at this, I just used the slow pulse. Even at that setting, it attacked the mixture aggressively and LIQUIFIED it in well under the one minute. The mixture was SO liquid that I was not sure whether or not to add the milk required in the recipe. I really like this hand blender, and I plan to search out more recipes where it can be used. If you love to cook, you will love this little ‘do-hicky'.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I chose this Oster Immersion Hand Blender with variable speed, to have a different type of gadget in my kitchen for doing quick things.

It took me a while to figure out what I can do or make with it, with supplies I already had on hand. I didn't have any fruit available to use, so I improvised a bit.

With my teenaged granddaughter's help, we made up some chocolate smoothies! I used some hot cocoa mix, milk and ice and away we went. They were DELICIOUS too!

I will later on try it out on soups and sauces, but for now, seeing the smile on my granddaughter's face was priceless!

The Oster Immersion Hand Blender IS a pretty handy little gadget to have in a kitchen!

Great little gadget!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have wanted to try the immersion blender because I see it used on cooking shows a lot but I never expected it to be so powerful and fast. This appliance is great because instead of putting your food in a blender, you bring the blender to the food, so you are saving time keeping your food in one pan. I used it to make a milkshake in the cup that you get with the blender and it turned out great in no time and it really mixes up scrambled eggs with just a push of the button located on the handle where it is convenient to push one of two speeds. I can't wait to try it for mixing up fruits for jam, fresh tomato's for soup, dips and discovering many other ways to use it. The Oster blender is simple to clean and it comes with a loop at the end so you can hang it up until you need it again and it makes life easier. I love it!

Powerful Blender

Works as advertised. A little on the loud side, but I rarely have to run it more than a few seconds. Sleek looking, but feels a little awkward in my hand. Very basic white plastic design, so I keep it in a drawer. Good value for the money.

I love that it is plastic rather than the competition's metal one but sometimes the power is too much for the mixing cup that comes with it. It sometimes sprays on the machine itself and on my sleeve.

Great CHEAP Hand Blender and I've had for 3 years and works great BUT first time I used on thanksgiving to make gravy the plastic blade guard melted and deformed. Spend the extra and get the metal ones! Having trouble finding that part and looking like I'm going to have to buy a new one. (should have bought metal in the first place!)

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I really wanted to love this, but the second time I used this immersion blender, the plastic housing on the blade assembly cracked.  I was pulsing strawberries, so it was not over taxing.  I would buy another blade assembly but it seems it is just as cheap to buy another whole product.  What a waste.  Very disappointed.

Upon initial purchase, this was my new favorite kitchen gadget. After a few months of occasional use for soups and smoothies, the housing stripped and the the blender did not work anymore. I figured that user error caused the problem, so I bought a second one just like it and promised myself that I'd be extra careful. I have been very careful for the last 6 months and yesterday, while blending a soup, the motor continued to buzz yet the blade would not turn. What a shame! I know that I will not be buying this model again and I hope that at least one of these purchases will be covered by the 3-year limited warrantee that Oster offers on some of their products...
