This is the 3rd OttLite I have purchased. 
The first was for myself because I was doing needlepoint, crochet with dark colors and although I was in a well lit room, I needed focused light on my work.   I could not believe the difference in what I could see.  Especially with black yarn, where it's so hard to see stitches.  Simply amazing!!!
I was so happy, I purchased the same light for a 99 year old woman who eye site, understandably, had detoriated so much she couldn't do some of the adult coloring she so enjoyed.  She too, was delighted by how much the light helped her see her work so much better than the light she had been using.
The 3rd is a gift for a sister who does needlepoint type of work and I know she is going to love it too.

The OttLite is great for detail work of all kinds.

Great Knitting Light

The light is bright, but it's difficult to position so that you don't cast a shadow on your work.  I also had to keep adjusting the magnifier as I was stitching.

Not easy to use

Agree with previous reviewer.   I'm a needlepointer and have used an older version of the Ottlite with bulbs and an Ottlite neck magnifier and that setup works well.  Got this new version for our vacation home and agree that it is disappointing.   It casts a shadow right on my work and the magnifier needs constant adjusting.

I was given this lamp for Christmas last year. By September the globe is flickering so much it can't be used. 10000 hours is just completely NOT true. No instructions on how/ if a globe/ bulb could be replaced. This was a complete waste of money I would give no stars if it were possible.
