I can't tell  you when I bought my Minwax Polyshade, there's always some left in the can from a previous use, it's the only product I use!  It always goes on smooth and cleans up nicely and the furniture looks beautiful!

I bought the dark walnut gloss to finish a dining room table.  This project was not without mistakes.  Thank goodness I came back to the website here to find out that you do NOT wipe the stain off with the polyshades!  Ugh... I wasted a LOT of time and even did an ebony stain in between from a different company because it wasn't getting darker.   The website instructions were very helpful and saved my project.  I did end up with dust "nibs" that I sanded down with a brown paper bag and it still kept the gloss finish.  The instructions need to be more clear on the can!  But I am SO happy with the end result!  Learned a lot!

Beautiful by the end, hard work to get there

I bought the classic oak (gloss) to touch up an old oak floor that had been peed on by a cat. I sanded off all the old finish in the stained area using 80 grit and a random orbital sander. I bleached the stained area with oxalic acid ( many treatments over several days). I then wiped down the area with a damp cloth and then went over it with a little baking soda and water solution to neutralize the acid. I then sanded the  area with 80 and then 120 grit. I applied the stain with a brush as per the instructions and let dry for a day. I went over the area with 0000 steel wool and repeated the application two more times. Finally, I applied paste wax to the area and buffed it out with my vacuum cleaner floor buffer attachment. I waxed and buffed a slightly larger area than the repair to feather the newly finished area into the rest of the floor.

The end result was lighter but not terribly so. Here are before and after (first application only) photos:

Better Than Expected

I found this produce very hard to work with, perhaps because of the combination of stain and poly -- streaky colors and gummy application. Using steel wool between coats, (as directed) is a mistake, even after 7 hours of drying time as it sticks to some parts of the finish that were apparently not fully cured. I wish I'd stayed with the traditional two step strain and finish process.

Refinisher beware

Review Polyshade After using PolyShades all in one my choice is to strip the oak table and chairs again or trash them
PolyShades was blotchy and uneven.  Unfortunately, this all-in-one polyurethane stain cannot be adjusted the way regular stain can be.  
This stuff is impossible to apply without the finish looking as though a 5-year-old did it.  It's globby, uneven and just plain awful to use.  It's almost as though it clots.  I've refinished many pieces over the years but nothing has failed like this project has.
I spent well over 20 hours stripping and sanding (3 steps to 240).  I used Minwax prep, and several good brushes for the poly before I switched to a cotton cloth application.  I applied three light coats. Then four...sanding lightly between each with a 240-grit sandpaper and then tacking for dust.  My hope was that this would even out with more applications.  It didn't.
Too bad because it was a beautiful piece.  Now I wonder if it is even salvageable.
Very disappointed in the product and would rate it less than one star if I could.

Minwax Product Support

Bought this in hopes of cutting down on finishing time. Sadly, I can't say that I'm very impressed with the product. While stirring a brand new can, noticed very thick clumps almost pudding like in bottom of can. Can't seem to get them to mix back into the rest of the solvent after spending quite a bit of time trying. Don't waste your time with this product.

Minwax Customer Support

I bought this so we could finish our brand new king size bed. I did the bookcase headboard today. It turned out horrible . I ruined the headboard trying to save time with this one step. I have worked building furniture for over 25 years so I know how to finish products. Tried to save time cause I was excited to get our new bed done and in our room. Well just cost me alot of time to either rebuild the headboard again or sanding for days and hoping I can salvage it. Please check reviews and save your money and time.

Dont waste your money

I bought this to refinish a dining room table (pecan) and I stripped the damaged finish and sanded down to bare wood.  I have tried 2 thin coats of the Polyshades product but the results are unsatisfying as it is impossible to be consistent with the amount/thickness applied and the result is lighter and darker shadows.  I did wet sand between coats with wet 600 waterproof sandpaper and again after the second coat but still the result is blotchy.  I am now going to have to sand back down to bare and use a traditional stain and clear urethane finish.  I would only suggest this product for small areas or touch ups and not where you want a dramatically beautiful finish as on my dining table top or furniture tops. I hate wasting my time and effort by having to do a job all over again so take my advice and go the stain, then finish route!

Great Idea But Don't Recommend It

I bought this to stain very expensive 6" poplar trim. This stuff is like paint, it goes on smooth. It dries extremly rough, then when I use fine and extra fine grit sandpaper it turns white! I mineral spirits it and apply my second coat I get the same results! Why did I not go the traditional stain then poly. Really this product is NOT a time saver. Also it ruins the application brush I am unable to get it cleaned. I have spent lots of money on 
brushes. Awful stuff!

Worst

Highly experienced wood crafter with over 30 years of experience and this is, by far THE WORST product. In theory, we thought it would be great, saving time and work. But we were so so so wrong. Carefully handcrafted a beautiful crib and changing table for our new grandson and this stuff pretty much ruined ALL of it. We are so utterly disappointed with the streaky, globby mess. And if minwax wants to blame the way we used it, we tried every single possible method, did the application precisely how they direct and its still looks awful. Minwax needs to remove this abhorrent product from the shelves. 
If you're using it on a straight, flat surface, it looks "ok" but not on hard to access areas, like crib spindles, any nooks or crannies, etc. You will ALWAYS get massive globs and streaks. Plainly, it straight up looks like crap.
