Great Pool PVC Primer and Cement

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I had to reply a P-trap. I always recommend to use latex gloves when working with this product. It does stain easily. It’s a fast drying product that you can apply easily with the applicator stick to the screw of lid. Just make sure to get good coverage on the PVC. Easy to use.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I work in campground maintenance so we deal with pvc a lot. Often times we are working on pipes that were just recently pressurized. This is where Oatey Rain-R-Shine really stands out. You can glue wet pvc together! It doesn’t seem like a big deal if you don’t work with pvc often but trust me it makes a difference. I won’t even purchase the standard cements anymore because this works in both scenarios so why own the other one? The primer is the standard purple primer that oatey has been producing for a loooong time. But it’s crucial for a good bonding surface. Great product!

If you’re only gonna keep one around, go blue.

First off, don't call it "cleaning." This primer actually pre-softens the PVC. It breaks down the glossy surface so the cement can actually fuse the plastic together into one solid piece. If you just use glue, you've got a "glue joint". Use the primer, and you've got a welded joint. Most inspectors around here won't even pass a job if they don't see that purple stain. It's proof you did the prep work. The consistency is thin and it stains everything. Use a rag and keep it off the yours/customers floor. Also, watch the daubers. Sometimes the quality on the brushes in the smaller cans can be a bit hit or miss.

The Oatey Blue Lava or Rain-R-Shine is what you want for irrigation, pools, or anytime there’s still a bit of water in the line. It’s made to work in damp or humid conditions.This stuff sets up extremely fast. For Blue Lava, you can often get a bond strength over 250 PSI in just 10 minutes. It’s thicker than standard clear glue, so it clings to the pipe better with less drip. Blue Lava can be used without a primer if the local code allows it, but honestly, just use the primer. It's better insurance against a callback.
