I bought this audio system because I wanted to replace a similar size Sony unit which made a whirring sound each time it played a CD... Well, guess what ! The Panasonic SCPMX90K Stereo System makes the SAME annoying SOUND, which could be ignored if one listens to Pop or Rock, but not when you try to enjoy instrumental or classical music... So, BIG DISAPPOINTMENT in the SOUND area :-((((((((((((((((((((((((((

I also wanted a numerical remote control, for the Sony one was extremely basic and stopped working in no time... Again, Panasonic let me down... The menu setup buttons (lower section) take WAAAAY TOO MUCH space & the volume button is tiny ! Or I need a better grip on this button, since I often listen to music in the evening or at night while resting & use the remote in the dark... I never had issues with this before, but try doing that with this remote ! It's just soooooo badly laid out & 0 intuitive !.... DISAPPOINTMENT again :-((((((((((((((((((((((((((((

Lastly and most importantly, the DISPLAY while playing is NON-EXISTENT ! I am a huge music fan and have personalized my own collections on mp3 discs containing up to 10 albums and up to 200 songs - when I insert the CD, this system displays " CD-MP3 ", as if I didn't know what I just put in ! And while playing, the only sing this system EVER SHOWS is " CD 1:34 ", so the type of media playing and the song running time !!! What if I want to know the track number ? Or the album number ? NOPE ! The implemented standard display shows NOTHING USEFUL... If you want access to that information, you have to press the display button (bottom of the remote control, on the left) repeatedly to see the track number, song title, album title, song quality, etc., etc., with lots of useless details no one cares about ! So if you're busy doing housework or exercising & don't have the remote control handy, you have NO IDEA WHAT YOU'RE LISTENING TO, because looking at the display won't reveal anything !... 

By comparison, my old Panasonic SA-AK230, which I have owned for 15 years and is still playing flawlessly, without any whirring sound by the way, displays mp3 info like this : when you insert an mp3 disc - " 3-170 " (meaning 3 albums, totalling 170 songs); while playing any type of CD (audio or mp3) - " 5 1:17 " (so the track number and its running time). 

The SCPMX90K is a HUGE DOWNGRADE from the old SA-AK230 and I am surprised at the low quality of the unit, which I wasn't expecting from Panasonic, as I have always considered it a good electronics brand & held it in high respect... until now. 

The Panasonic SCPMX90K Stereo System is NOT A GOOD PURCHASE and lacks basic functionalities, like a useful display, a decent sized volume button on the remote control as well as a " Repeat " button directly on it... You can set-up a " repeat album " or a " repeat certain songs " program, but you have to press the " Setup " button several times, which is annoying & time consuming !... The remote is way too complex to handle & the ever-present whirring sound while playing is distracting and detrimental to the enjoyment of any type of music... 

For all the reasons stated above, I would NOT RECOMMEND this stereo system, it's a WASTE OF MONEY for ZERO enjoyment and ZERO handling ease. I gave it 2 * because it's Panasonic ( still in awe of my old SA-AK230 ! ) and because the system was all in all super easy to install - but its functionality is NULL.
