I have a brand new guillotine trimmer here and it does not cut straight. As the blade comes down, even while holding the paper securely, the blade makes the paper ripple and shift away from the blade, and then the past 2 inches are so are caught between the edge of the cutter and the blade, leaving a rough and slightly crumpled edge. 

Also the light does not turn off when the blade is lowered, even when it is locked in place. The only way to turn it off is to remove the batteries.

It does not cut well at all.
