I love this stuff, and so does everyone in the house. Our favourite recipe:

1 medium onion (any colour), puréed
1 400mL tin of coconut milk (http://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/aroy-d,coconut,milk/10212024 is perfect, just shake the can thoroughly before opening it)
1 156mL tin of tomato paste (like http://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/great,value,tomato,paste/6000187055091)
a sprinkle of brown sugar to take the tang out of the tomato
Half a jar of Patak's Butter Chicken sauce

Stir everything together in a large pot or pan until combined and simmer for about 10 minutes.
If you want chicken, dice it into bite sized chunks, coat with another can of tomato paste, and broil until cooked through, then add to the sauce soon before serving. Beef and lamb work too (in fact the only meat I've ever tried this with that didn't work was wild pheasant). If you don't want meat, chopped button mushrooms are a great substitute (added raw to the sauce about halfway through simmering) as is a large drained can of dice tomatoes.
Serve with rice. If you like, roti, naan, papadums, or tortillas make a great addition as well.

Depending on how hungry you are, this makes enough for 4-8 servings. A single jar in our house is good for 4 meals.

Its so BLAND! It tastes like nothing!? I thought i messed it up the first time, but I had it again recently and it was still so bland!

It's actually awfully. Tastes nothing like butter chicken. It just tastes like tomato and vinegar. If you're looking to make authentic butter chicken, don't use this.

If you've ever had actual butter chicken you'll know right away this is not it. Its more of a tomato sauce than it is anything else. Do yourself a favor and don't buy this.
