PATONS-Classic Wool Roving Yarn. A soft yarn with a gorgeous color palette that is incredibly resilient. It is great for felting and needle felting projects as well and knit and crochet apparel, accessories, and home decor items. Weight category: 5. Content: 100% new pure wool. Put up: 3.5oz/100g, 120yd/109m. Knit gauge: 15st x 20r = 4in/10cm with US-10/6mm needles. Suggested crochet hook: US-10/J/6mm. Care: Hand wash, lay flat to dry, do not bleach, do not iron, do not dry clean. Dyelotted-- we try but cannot guarantee matching dyelots. Made in Canada.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] An interesting material to work with. Halfway into my first skein on an undershirt project I was grumbling to myself a lot about the way the "yarn" would range from super thick to super thin, over and over again. I was about to complain to the seller when I noticed the odd name of it on the wrapper: "Patons Classic Wool Roving". It doesn't say "yarn". I looked for the word "roving" in my dictionary and voilà, its a pre-yarn, it's a continuous strand of loosely twisted and drawn wool, ready to be spun (American Heritage Dictionary). No more complaining. I got what I paid for, being an uninformed purchaser. 
Even so, I am happy with my project. It has a lot of interesting spots that draw the eye, like black hairs in the wool, lumps of white hairs that are tangled into the roving, thin spots, thick spots. I use a 6mm hook.
I would suggest to debutant crocheters to complete a few other projects first with yarn for their learning curve. Learning how to crochet with this roving would be too frustrating. But for people who crochet in their sleep, it can be satisfying, provided they enjoy incongruity.
A few other reviewers mentioned using it for felting: that makes sense.
If I can edit my review after completing my project, I'll add some photos. 
My project, when done, will be an incredibly warm undershirt, perfect for living in the coming Ice Age when we can no longer afford energy and find ourselves freezing in the dark. The things I can imagine while crocheting, eh!

The yarn is perfect for my poncho project, so soft.  However, it does twist as crocheting, and I need to pause and untwist the yarn as I progress.  I wish I had a choice of more colors, bright colors or multi colors.

Not impressed with this roving yarn. Such inconsistencies with thickness from thread thin to super bulky. In some places it barely hold together and breaks apart very easily. Really liked the colour natural but cannot use the yarn. Poor quality!

Not good roving yarn!

As much as I wanted to like this yarn, it's just awful to work with. I tried to use this yarn for several hours but it keeps breaking and as it keeps breaking, it ruins the integrity of the length around it. Unfortunately, I have purchased several skeins of this yarn so now I'm conflicted on what to do with it...
