I am a lover of writing instruments and I like to try different things. The 4 B soft lead really writes great and leave a dark print with little effort. I do not use it for everything, mostly crossword puzzles and Worddle puzzles that are in the newspapers. I can write my answers and not have to press nearly as hard as I do with harder leads. I love it that Pentel has this available along with their great writing tools.

Softer is Better

I like this because it doesn't smudge like the softer leads do and because it is a little darker and easier to write with than the H lead.

0.5 mm thick has always been my favorite size since I discovered they made it that thin back in college.

Thin Lead Fan

I actually bought both the HB, 2B, and 4B 0.5mm pencil leads.  All 3 grades are wonderfully smooth to write or draw with.  I've never had to worry about grain.  And they are noticeably different in tone and feel going from the HB to 2B to 4B, which I really enjoy.  Would definitely recommend.

Recommend for writing or drawing.

The 4B lead is little softer than I remembered, but the dark line it puts on the paper is excellent.

Same as 3mm review. Poor performance lead. Grabs the paper in a bad way. Not smooth at all. Sorry I bought a years worth of lead at one time = what a waste.
