Love the large size and it is super durable. I have a Belgian Malinois that is a magician when it comes to escaping crates. But this one has held him in! The metal gate/door is much sturdier than other crates I've tried. I love that it latches in 4 places rather than just two, like most crates.

Great purchase for my 60 lb dog. Once the hatch of the SUV is open and the front latch opened for him, he jumps right in "place" and is ready for his ride. Enough room for a comfy mat and beach towel plus his favorite teddy!  Enough ventilation and viewing space to enjoy his travel time.

Comfortable and safe for my dog during travel.

Perfect for my cat and met all airline requirements. My cat quickly acclimated and liked the cage. The only thing that bothered my OCD is that the PetMate brand name is slapped on very crooked on the front of the cage. Other than that works perfect and easy to assemble.

Perfect for air travel

Perfect for keeping a young enthusiastic boxer safe and out of trouble when we have to leave for a short time. He's not in the crate more than a couple of hours at any given time. He outgrew the petmate crates I had and I was satisfied with the brand and it's made in the U. S. A.

Permate ultra vari kennel

I like Petmate Vari Kennels for my parrots because the door and the side vents are metal.  Parrots chew through other carriers that only have plastic sides!

I use the crates for our two golden retrievers pups (5 months and 22 months) in an SUV and motorhome. I use tie-downs to keep it from sliding or tipping. I like the additional protection since dog 'seatbelts' just don't work with a dog that won't sit still. I've never had issues with either dog doing damage and they're strong chewers with toys that are meant to be chewed. I make sure they're used to the kennel before I'd expect them to spend a lot of time in one. And of course, bits of steak tossed inside help too! The reviews of destroyed kennels tell me the dogs panicked. No plastic or wire crate will hold up to that and it's not fair to the dog. Animal control uses stainless steel kennels because they know the animal will be frightened. Please, introduce your pet to the kennel slowly, with lots of positive reinforcement, short trips to fun places, and yummy treats or dabs of peanut butter on the walls to make them want to go in. My dogs now prefer to be in them and will bark if I have to let them ride outside of the crate. The only part that has been a problem is one of the nuts/bolts fell off as they tend to unscrew from vibration. Be sure to check them now and then. I use the ones with the metal nuts and install them with the nut on the bottom so the younger pup doesn't chew on them when it's in the house. A little bitter apple helps, too.

Great for SUV and motorhome

This is a great product recommended by AKC show pros and purchased for our future dog. Note to packers: Please check product before shipping, because this brand new kennel arrived with spider webs covering the inside bottom.

Great Product!

Well made crate that seems strong for travel, but not as convienent for break down. For the middle/smaller models, the door latch isn't perfectly smooth - be sure the latches go all the way down when shutting. The inside base is a little smaller than the widest measurements because it curves in.

Pretty good and functional but not perfect.

As expected but I do not like how the door will usually not stay open on it's own, it closes automatically most times and I wish it would not! Other than that, no issues.

Adequate

My GSD pup is crate trained. I purchased my first PetMate plastic crate in 2004 and never had an issue. When my GSD got too big for his wire kennel, I upgraded the size and got a PetMate Ultra (for its airline approved status). For three solid nights and any day time crate use highly distressed my dog. No one in the house slept. He was quite agitated (barking, clawing at the crate bottom, etc). He could not sleep or lay down in the crate. On the fourth night, I put him in the crate with the same result. Ten minutes later, I took out the old 2004 crate (flat bottom, no injection mold markers) and popped him in it. He sat down and gave the biggest sigh. I finally understood he had been in distress because of the new crate. On inspection, I discovered these round things under the bottom, pressed into them with my forearms and immediately felt the pressure points/pain. 
Who thought this design was a good idea? Did PetMate even try it? I beg designers to sit in it, lie down in it, press their forearms on to these circle things. Question your motives.
As far as I'm concerned, it's a cheap excuse and terrible quality.

I'll be cross-posting this comment on multiple pet store sites. I'm so unimpressed with this design. The incredible distress my dog endured because of shoddy design is unacceptable.
