Coming from blade, to electric after 45 years of shaving I found the initial experience a little sore and time consuming. After finding my footing and relaxing my approach to the task I found that the machine was very capable of a perfect shave in under 5 minutes. Having had to shave twice a day for most of my adult life this ha s saved time and is as good as a single blade shave

Blade to Electric?

I was given a philishave razor for my 21st birthday and used it for many many years. Roll on fifty years and I was considering getting a new cordless razor. Having bought a Braun series 9 which I used for a couple of years dropped it in the shower and tried to get it repaired which didn't prove cost effective. I looked around and the most cost effective solution was to purchase a Philips, which I did. I was pleasantly surprised and impressed with how good it was and looked. It was like welcoming home an old friend.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've had many shavers over the years, and I finally hit the jackpot with this shaver. It's by far the best shaver I ever had. I've had more expensive shavers that were not half as good. These days my shaves take less than 5 minutes. I go around telling everybody about it! My only gripe is I wish they would add a case for it as well. I had to buy it separately, but they never fit as good as the one supplied by the manufacturer.

Best shaves less than 5 minutes!

I have had exactly the same shaver for a couple of years & decided to buy another for my holiday property in Spain. I took the old one to Spain & kept the new one here. Oddly the new one, although good, doesn't seem to shave as close as the old one. I am putting this down to the fact it is new & maybe needs 'running in'.

Bought a 2nd, not sure if as good as the 1st

This shaver replaces my previous S7000 shaver which is 5 years old. The S5000 shaver works well, has pretty much the same specs a the S7000 version so for less money I have the same capable shaver. It works great. I like the design of the shaving head being able to flip open for cleaning and also being detachable if I need to renew it in 2 years. I do not like the heavy weight of the shaver, it feels way heavier than my previous S7000. On the other hand I have the feeling the battery is going to last much longer in between charges so the weight is probably purposeful. It came with a cleaning device which I probably never will use (I never did with my old shaver). Overall I am happy with my new shaver.

For me Philips shaver are still the best

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Overall it's not quite as good.  I've had Norelco  shavers for many years and got this replacement because my old unit's battery was going bad.  (1)  New unit does not live up to Philip's claim for up to 1 hour of battery use.  I charged it for well over 24 hours before first use.  It ran down to zero in 35-40 minutes.  I just timed it again and it showed one lighted bar (status of charge) after 28-30 minutes.  This is now my recharging point.  (2)  The redesigned external surfaces [star wars/stealth] are unnecessary and make it slightly less ergonomic.  The relocated built-in trimmer is now fairly cumbersome to use.  (3) Loss of the nose trimmer is a detractor.  I had to buy one in addition to the shaver.   dww

A step down from previous Norelco shaver

Having finally upgraded from the old 3000 model to the 5000, I have found the new shaver to be a  significant improvement. I now get a very smooth shave and takes less time to do so than the previous shaver. 
The reason I have only given four stars is because of the time it sometimes takes me to fit in the blades after cleaning. The locking of the final piece of a blade in particular can be very time consuming and does not always lock in properly. This may be that I am a "senior citizen" and as time goes on I may hopefully find the refitting easier.

Improvement on old shaver.

The Razor is fine, but I bought it to replace my ageing 7000 series.  I quickly realised that my old one felt much more comfortable in my hands whilst shaving so took the new blades and foils from the new one and put them in my old one - perfect.  I'll keep the new one in a drawer just in case!  To be fair the integral trimmer on the new one is better, just the ergonomics don't feel right

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I previously had a norelco rotary shaver and liked it.. This one is terrible.  The shave is not good and for some reason it irritates the skin on my neck.  to properly clean i have to remove the blades from the head because the hairs tend to collect inside the blades and clog up. the newer head design makes it impossible to shave under your nose.
