If you have thick hair, that grows fast, this shaver is the one for you !!!. All you have to do is stretch your skin when you shave for the first two weeks, and your good to go. The razor does the rest. I still stretch my skin because it's a habit. This razor is really like no other razor you will ever use. This razor is almost like using a straight razor, like your daddy, or Grandpa used to use, that is no joke, it's more of an understatement. This is really an awesome razor, a little pricey, but well worth it. If your on the fence, just pull the trigger on it, you won't be disappointed. Way to go Philips!!! I am a customer for life !!!!!

I have used Philips Noreclo shavers for almost 50 years. This is the best ever. I love the SmartClean system. It makes the use of this unit so straightforward and simple. In the past, I never cleaned the heads as often as I should since it was a bit of a pain. Great shave and essentially no maintenance. One of the best products ever!

Excellent system - especially auto cleaning system

For several years I used a competing type of electric shaver that worked in a conventional way. I had used a Norelco since my 20's, but started using another type later in life when I felt that Norelco was not the best type. I was never comfortable with the loud buzz of the other brand, but it shaved me well and I put up with it. I switched back to Norelco when I felt that the design was back to what I wanted. I'm glad I did. It shaves much better than my old razor and is so quiet that I can listen to music or the news without raising the volume. The Norelco cleaning system is also much better and quieter. All around I'm very satisfied.

I'm Back

Firstly let me say that this model shaves more efficiently than my last shaver the Philips Sensotouch, In that regard this is a real update to the shaver. These were not not cheap products so was a bit surprised at a couple of real flaws or omissions to the 9000 series. S9711.31.
The lack of a stand to house the shaver when not in use is a real omission in this model.
The lack of a built in trimmer is also (IMO) an omission although it does have a detachable trimmer which is included with this model.
The design of the hand grip could be better or placing of the power level setting which I keep moving inadvertently when in use. A minor point but a tad annoying none the less.
The lack of a three pin UK plug to the charging/cleaning unit is an omission. I had thought all UK devices should be equipped with a three pin power plug?
Removing the shaving head from its base after every shave to wash the unit is not as easy as the previous model and tends to be fiddily. 
This is still a great unit and does provide a clean shave and a lot quicker than my last model.
It is a excellent shaver but the design could be improved upon.

Excellent product but it does have some flaws.

The shave quality is good as I have come to expect on my three previous Norelco shavers. This was the first time I ponied up the cash to get the cleaning base. My expectation was that the cleaning base would remove all hair trimmings from the shaver head and be captured, then thrown away with the monthly base fluid replacement. about 1 month into ownership, I popped the blade head off to take a look and the hair pieces were just caked to the inside. I surprised the amount of hair caked in there allowed the shaver to function properly. Anyway, now I just rinse the hair in the sink myself after each use before using the "cleaning" base.

Good shave, cleaning base needs improvement

I bought this razor to replace an older model. This one, despite claims, does not shave as close as the older model. In additon, the battery does not last as long and does not come with a charging stand. This razor cost much more than my previous one.

Personally, not impressed

Do not like that you have to take off the entire head of the razor to clean it, rather than just lifting the heads up like on my previous razor from you. Also, the fact that you don't have a trim feature on the razor without changing heads is not a good time saving feature. The razor does a good job of saving, just do not like the above mentioned items.

Not happy with this product!

I have two major complaints about this Norelco Shaver. First, it makes
too much noise when operating! I've had Norelco shavers most of my
life, but none of them we're this noisey. When you get close to your
ears, it is very annoying! Secondly, the power switch (button) is very
poorly located, so that your thumb will inadvertantly shut the shaver
off, when you hold the shaver in the most comfortable position. I find
myself having to hold it closer to the top to avoid this problem, but it
is not the most ideal, nor suggested way to hold the shaver while
shaving!

This Shaver makes too Much noise!

Norelco 9700 series is unnecessarily complicated. The shaving heads must be "yanked" off to clean. (What was wrong with the previous design?) The liquid cleaning contraption, again, what a mess. The battery life which used to be 2 hours is now 1 hour. Speaking of the battery, you lose 5% power as it just sits overnight. The trimmer that used to be attached is now nothing but a hassle to attach and remove. Now toss in no protective cap and no stand- you can't even buy as accessories. Who thought up these changes? Had to be profit motivated, not customer beneficial. The only positive is the shave itself is still about the same. I have bought only Norelco for 50 years. NO MORE.

DO NOT BUY IT!!

On paper this is probably their best design shaver. The problem is the connection between the plastic head unit that attaches to the handle. Philips Norelco head is so poorly design I think it needs to be made of metal. I've been using Norelco razors for almost 40 years
