IF you haven't seen it, you need to. If you have seen it, you know what I'm talking about. This is the same series the Discovery Channel ran, only it's unabridged and has David Attenborough narrating, instead of Sigourney Weaver.

Prestine picture clarity that is hard to believe. HD is definetly the way of the future. Great price, fast shipping to Alaska, perfect for get togethers for friends and family. It can completely captivate you or you can talk with guests without it being overwhelming. Good extras. If you like nature, it is a must have.

Prestine picture clarity

I watched planet earth on the discovery channel and i really liked it but at that time i only had a small tv with a bad signal. I just recently bought a the sony 52" xbr5 lcd tv and a ps3 and i wanted to see this series on my new setup. When i started playing planet earth on my tv i was completly blowen away from the details of the show. I learned alot from the episodes and i love to share it with my friends and family. Definetly a must buy!!!

Awesome Show

Some of the scenery is breathtaking and it will show you views of earth like you've probably never seen before. On a different note, most of it is in hi def(1080p) but some of it only looks like DVD, and although I like nature and I find it all to be beautiful(except for the animals eating each other) for some reason, this always puts me to sleep. I don't know if it's the announcer or the peaceful nature scenes, but it'll put me to sleep in a half hour almost guaranteed.

Educational and beautiful

These Blu- ray DVDs are wonderful! The picture is so clear & viewing the wild animals in their natural surroundings is an amazing photographic feat! It had to take hours & hours of patience to capture these movies! Now we have hours & hours of exciting footage to view!

Beautiful Photography!

After MUCH research I thought I found the format of Planet Earth on blu ray in 1080p, as I had heard the 1080i versions were not as good. None of the websites will tell you which version is formatted in 1080p and which are actually 1080i. When I received this, I was disappointed to learn it is the 1080i format. However, the picture quality is still exceptional!

This is not 1080p!!

To sum up this box set I'll quote my brother-in-law who works in home theater and mobile installation:

"We always keep Planet Earth on file to showcase the benefits of bluray and the clear difference in picture and sound."

I think this is a fantastic series. I never saw it when it was on television and originally Netflix-ed the first disc. Decided immediately no need to waste a Netflix rental on this set because it was so amazing I was going to purchase it for sure. I originally purchased this set from Best Buy for $44 or so. But, then I returned it when I found Wal-Mart had AGAIN the best price. Amazing series of photography and great narration. You won't believe your eyes, and a great value for almost 9 hours of breathtaking entertainment.

Hours of beauty, up-close and life adventures of Earth, wind and fire as well as all the creatures of the sea, land and air! Great gift for anyone! The price is great!

BREATHTAKING ADVENTURES!

This is something my husband loves and the children love. I can put it on while the children in my daycare are playing and they pay attention but they aren't glued to the TV like when cartoons are on. Their parents love to see them watching educational programs and this is one that is very calming to me as well. I bought it to see the full effect of new HDTv, but I have used it more than expected, it even calms infants without boring older children/adults. It is absolutely breathtaking and educational.

Best money I have spent on entertainment

The best part of the series was the ten minute tidbits at the end of each episode showing how everything was captured on film, etc. I am not sure why, but none of these are on the Blu-Ray edition, but they are on the regular DVD set.
