This device is a lot of fun and works very well if you have strong, stable Wi-Fi. When the connection is good, gameplay is smooth, looks great, and feels responsive, making it easy to enjoy PlayStation games without being stuck in one place. However, Wi-Fi quality matters a lot—if your internet is weak or unstable, the lag can be bad and negatively affect the experience. It is also important to note that if you have T-Mobile, the hotspot does not connect properly. I tried multiple times, and it did not work, so this is not a good option if you plan to rely on a T-Mobile hotspot. Overall, it is a great device for home use with good Wi-Fi, but not ideal for mobile hotspot use.

I brought this for my son and he really loves it because he can carry it anywhere he goes now he really don't play his PlayStation 5 that much unless he's in his room he takes it on the road can move all around the house and anywhere he wants to take it

Amazing device for what it is. I intially returned this device when it first came out as it constantly lagged or wouldnt get a strong signal. But pulled the trigger a few weeks ago hearing its been improved and it def has been! I do use ethernet now on my ps5 and better ethernet cables from my router to modem and modem to ps5 which also helps but even under wifi it perfomed much better then when it first launched. Beautiful screen, i cant say this enough. For not being a oled screen its one of the best led screens on a handheld ive experienced. Connects in a reasonable time and now you can even use it for cloud streaming without hooking it up to your ps5. It works amazing doing that too. Almost zero hiccups. A very rare slight hiccup every few hours for maybe a split second or two. Tbh the graphics that come thru look as good as the ps5 on a tv! Also very very comfortable to hold and good battery life. Many cool docking stations and designs for covers can be purchased as well. Didnt have great luck using this outside of the house however even using verizon hotspot in the city. Its a great device for couching it at home or outside when you dont want to be tied to the tv. Only buy if you have strong relianle internet or you will be dissappointed. We have spectrum home internet running 600 or more mbps.

Amazing for what it is!

great bang for your buck when it comes to mobile gaming solutions. yes it requires a PS5 to remote play to, but it's 20% the cost of the closest competitor that doesn't require a console. 

even getting a PS5 and this bundled together saves you 300-400 dollars over the true mobile gaming solution. 

I've used it for a few weeks now and haven't come across a game that won't work on the device. yes the screen is smaller than a TV when it comes to reading things, but it's easy to adapt to it. 

I highly recommend the portal for a PlayStation gamer looking for a solution for gaming on the go

I never thought I needed the PS Portal until I tried it. It has completely changed how and where I play my favorite PlayStation titles. The PS portal offers a solid, if niche, solution for those who can't always access their TV, but it's not without its flaws. This device is simply a remote player for the PS5 that streams games over Wi-Fi so a good connection is highly required. The portal is exceptionally comfortable to hold, especially during long gaming sessions. The controls feel similar and high quality with haptic feedback and adaptive triggers as it features an 8 inch, 1080p LCD screen capable of 60 frames per second. The portal requires a PS5 to be on or in rest mode and connected to the Internet. Battery performance typically lasts between four and eight hours. Overall, it's a surprisingly successful device that perfectly fits my gaming lifestyle.

The perfect handheld device for any PS5 owners!

Overall, it's a pretty good machine, but I ultimately ended up returning it. Aside from some occasional lag, my main issue was with syncing; a lot of the time, my gameplay on the Portal wouldn't sync up with my PS5, or vice versa. When you couple those connectivity headaches with the mandatory monthly subscription cost just to play online, it just wasn't worth keeping.

This beautiful device does feel like holding a dualshock controller with the screen replacing the touchpad, as promised.  However, it is very weak at capturing wifi, and does not recognize a premium subscriber to stream games per last update. if i have not started the game in my ps5 and then switch to the portal, it will not play.  i have tried multiple wifi sources to eliminate the issue being with my router, and found the portal unable to fulfill its marketed role. My phone can use remote play and connect where the portal can't, and I have a galaxy from many years ago; doesnt make sense remote play on my phone is better than whatever the portal is intended for.  furthermore, the portal is physically weaker/sensitive than a dualshock or dualsense; 2 days after purchase the right thumbstick got stuck against the box the device came in, and is now broken and in need of service.  i bought it just before the price bump, and now I wonder if I was better off without smh.  Maybe i have a model that has bad wifi and weak thumbsticks, but it has not shown itself worth the cost if you have a backbone or other gaming device that connects to your phone.  Perhaps I got a bad one, and whatever comes from the warranty will solve all of my concerns.

If you were hoping the PlayStation Portal would be the true successor to the PSP or Vita, prepare for bitter disappointment. The Portal is not a standalone handheld console; it's merely a glorified remote-play accessory for your PS5, and it barely delivers on that single, limited promise.

The Major Flaws:

Connectivity is a Nightmare: The entire experience hinges on a flawless Wi-Fi connection, and even with robust home internet (PS5 hardwired to ethernet), the performance is inconsistent. Expect frequent stuttering, frame rate drops, and random disconnects that completely ruin the immersion, making fast-paced or competitive games unplayable due to input lag.

PlayStation Portal is a Missed Opportunity

This is not what I expected, but that is not Walmart's fault. The issue is with Sony, not the retailer. The product itself did not meet my needs, so it was not a good fit for me. That said, someone else with different expectations or uses may still find it to be a good product.

Good for Walmart boo for manufacturers

I went in having high expectations for the PS Portal. Playing on Wi-Fi at the house works flawlessly with the new updates, streaming and connected to PlayStation. But when you leave the house, even on good Wi-Fi or a hotspot, games are unplayable. I've tried multiple times on different networks to give it a fair shake, but still, game lag or the system crashes almost instantly. Hopefully, PlayStation will come out with a standalone system; until then, the Portal is not for me.
