Boasting an old world aesthetic, the Pleasant Hearth Amhearst Fireplace Glass Door Collection is a beautiful, hammered black, cabinet style, one-piece frame. When installed, the fireplace glass door enhances the appearance of your family’s indoor, wood-burning, traditional masonry fireplace hearth. All Pleasant Hearth Fireplace Glass Door sets are designed for masonry fireplaces only and are not compatible with prefabricated fireplaces – see our Sizing Guide for more details.<br>When it’s time to unwind from the day, this glass door set opens completely, providing a clear view of your burning fire. The smoked 3/16-in tempered glass doors must stay open while the fire is burning, and the built-in mesh firescreen panels act as a barrier to help contain embers. Both the glass doors and mesh panels have easy-catch magnets to help keep them closed.<br>The glass doors can help you save energy year-round – when closed, they prevent AC and heat loss through the chimney by up to 90%. The hidden damper knob at the bottom of the firescreen provides additional air flow to feed the fire for bigger, longer-lasting flames. Closed fireplace glass door sets also prevent cold chimney downdrafts from entering your home and keep pets and children out of fireplace soot.<br>These fireplace glass doors are surface mounted flat against the fire place opening, allowing the doors to open fully to provide an incredible view of your fire from anywhere in the room. I bought this to replace an outdated polished brass unit. I have to admit I was afraid I wouldn't be able to install it, but my fears were unfounded. I only had to redo one small part because I didn't fully understand the instructions. A second set of hands is pretty much a necessity to hold the unit against the fireplace while you snug up things on the other side. We're very happy with this.

great features

First, this is a beautiful, very well made fireplace door. It looks fantastic. Just a couple of cautions:

This door is considerably darker in person that in the photo. In certain light, it almost looks black. Admittedly, we have a very large great room with a vaulted ceiling that we struggle to light well. Tip: our local Home Depot store had the Fenwick on display, so we knew it was a bit darker than in the photo. Even so, once installed in our house, both my wife and I felt it was still a bit darker than we were expecting.

Secondly, I didn't pay much attention to the "smoked glass" part of the product title/description. The smoked glass is also quite dark. Our old screen did not have smoked glass, and we could plainly see our gas logs with the doors closed. With the Fenwick, you can barely see inside the fireplace at all. That might be a good or bad thing, but for us, frankly, we miss being able to see the logs when not in use.

Again, this is a very handsome door with excellent quality and a significant upgrade to our old, drafty, flimsy door. Overall we are very happy with it. Just keep this two points in mind and you will not be disappointed.

I highly recommend visiting your local big box DIY store to see in person before ordering.

Excellent -- but a few minor cautions

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Very simple to install. Looks great. The only little problem was the threaded return lip on the pressure bracket should have been longer.  The return was 7/8 inch should have been 1 1/2 inch.

Easy to install

We had a glass door enclosure with polished brass which we didn't care for the appearance. The unit with the oil rubbed finish looks great and the quality of the enclosure is far superior to our old one. Installation was a breeze.

Great Quality and Appearance

Like the look,but had problems with door handles as both were miss tapped on one side. Luckily I have taps here at home to fix the threads so that the screws would insert properly.
Also there is a scratch on one if the doors that doesn't meet my wife's approval.

Nice looking fireplace addition

When I went to install the fireplace doors, the holes (where the fireplace handles were to go into the glass) were not cut. Because of this, I was unable to put the fireplace handles on the fireplace. I have been on hold with the manufacturer, Pleasant Hearth, for over 45 minutes. I would not recommend this product or this company to anyone else.
