so my two small dogs have got to where they won't eat blue buffalo anymore. They didn't particularly care for Iams. Someone recommended Purina Pro Plan and my dogs ate it with no transition period. I bought a small bag to make sure it was gonna work out. Why is dog food so expensive?

I trust Purina. My Yorkies love the chewy shredded chicken pieces. The amount of the shredded pieces varies from bag to bag.  Most have enough. When it runs down to just the kibbles, my dogs are not so enthusiastic about the food.  Then again, they get samples of shaved deli roasted smoked chicken, and occasional cheddar cheese.  How can I say no, right? Not as bad as Mrs. Pumphrey on All Creatures Great And Small, however.

My little dogs love this food.  They look very healthy without being overweight. They are picky eaters and I am glad I saw this food at Walmart. They do prefer the chicken flavor. Great food.

Very healthy food

I have fed the Chihuahua's in my life Bil-Jac but decided to switch to this and I am glad I did. I think she has gained some weight since I started feeding her this. I do use a topper now, also. Mainly the Blue lamb, turkey, beef or chicken toppers. I feed her two tablespoons of the Purina and 1 tablespoon of topper twice a day. So far so good. I will stick with this for, hopefully, good.

My 5 lb. Chihuahua Loves This!

I have been using this dog food with my chihuahuas for two plus years. It was recommended to me by two different vets. My dogs love it. They use the bathroom with no problem. I will say it is good for there digestive system. It keeps their coat looking shiny %26 healthy. No issues. Happy dog mom here.

Great dog food

We have a small rescued “Borkie”. We switched to the Purina Pro Plan for Small Breeds a few years ago when she suddenly refused to eat her dry food.  After taking her to the veterinarian to ensure she didn't have something physically wrong, we tried several different brands/flavors before coming across the Pro Plan for Small Breeds. She devours her dinner now (and also yaps incessantly if her bowl is empty in-between!) The nuggets are a little smaller than some of the others we tried, and there are bite-size pieces of chicken mixed throughout the bag. Yes, there are still chicken pieces when you get to the bottom of the bag! Our cat will even pick out a few of the chicken pieces from the dog's dish - but only when the dog is not nearby!  The 6 lb. bag usually lasts us about a month to six weeks.
We are pleased with the quality of this dog food and recommend it for any dog.

It took three years for me to find a dry dog food that my Lil'Man would even consider eating. I was so happy when we discovered this brand and flavor, and now he's more than satisfied. He just turned four on March 18, 2026.
