Smell

I just knew it was going to start stinking after I put eggshells in there; I was ready for it. It would be among week old (and still  accumulating) banana peels, coffee grounds, strawberry tops, apple cores, the yellow parts of lettuce, overripe tomatoes...leftover salads.

And still, after it became filled to the brim which took us 8 or 9 days (a family of 3 who eats more produce than anyone I know of) - no odor. No odor and no gnats or fruitflies - which our kitchen area can be prone to.

We keep it under the sink beside the rubbish bin. Just having our compost bin installed, I was finally able to dump it yesterday and still, no decomposing odor or bugs. I'm surprised because I was willing to pay the penalty of stink. It's nice to not have to.

I can't compost where I live but I wanted to reduce my trash amount.  so far for the florida spring it has held the smell in for the vegetable scraps.  we'll see for the summer if it keeps the gnats and odors to a manageable level.

its alright, better to invest in a good bin that has filter.  THis causes little bugs/flies and smells !!   I got this because I ordered bags that fit in 2gal...   Most of the compost bins are under 2gal..,  still wish I got a real compost bin lol

... regret, buy a better one for kitcen

This is the FOURTH compost bucket in my search for one that fruit flies cannot access. It does snap shut but there's still plenty of room for the darn fruit flies. Argh!  😩
