I searched all over the web looking for a top of the stairs gate that would attach between 2 bannisters that wouldn't cost a fortune. I came across the Regalo-Extra Tall Top of Stairs Metal Gate and decided to place an order after reading all the reviews. The gate came delivered right to my door step all for a cost of under $54.00. The directions at first were a bit confusing but once I got it figured out, the installation was quite easy. The gate looks nice (although I would have preferred wood) and I have peace of mind my grandson is now safe. The door to open and close works very easy. Very pleased!!!

Nice Gate, Great Value

We bought this gate because we have a railing on one side and a wall on the other. We didn't want to spend a ton but still wanted a quality gate. This gate is all of that! it was fairly easy to install and is very sturdy and looks great! we didn't have to drill holes into the railing, which we were concerned about. Overall, great gate for the price!

Perfect for stairs with a railing on one side!

I purchased the gate to use at the top of my stairs to prevent my uncle (who is 92) from falling as he move around with his walker. The great part, I did not have to drill or screw the gate into my stair posts. I just used the strips provided and it is very secured and tall enough to protect him from falling through.

Eldercare

This baby gate is sturdy and feels very secure once installed. Installation was quick and easy, and it fits nicely. The only thing I am a not fan about is that the locking mechanism can be a bit tricky—you need to use both hands to open and close it, which isn't always convenient when carrying a baby. Overall, a solid and reliable gate for safety, just wish it were a bit easier to operate one-handed.

Great gate when you need a longer verison

After tons and tons of research on baby gates we settled on this one. We really didn't want to have to drill into our wooden spindles but wanted to make sure our 1 year old was safe. This gate did it. We did have to drill into the actual wall but that was fine, as it is an easy fix. I also like that it has adapters to work around having molding. I definately recommend following the instructions carefully, and it took about 25-30 mins to install. I do overall feel like it is a sturdy gate. The downside is the gate swings both ways at the top of the stairs and if you let it hang over the stairs the velcro starts to loosen a little. but there is a lock over the velcro. and the way to open it is not really the easiest way invented, you have to lift it up, so although you can open it one handed, sometimes it's a little harder to shut 1 handed. All in all we liked it enough to get 2 more for our other stair openings.

Decent gate so I didn't have to drill spindle

Great sturdy gate and one of the only ones that I found that you don't have to screw into your stair banister. The only downfall of this gate (and the only reason I didn't give it a 4/5 star rating) is that it's really difficult to open/close with one hand. You have to align the pegs on the door with the holes on the stationary banister sections while sliding the door closed.... this is really hard to do with one hand and a baby in the other. Besides that this is the only gate that worked for us and, when latched properly, is very secure/sturdy.

Decent gate but hard to latch with one hand

our staircase is apparently unusually wide and this was the only gate we could find to bridge the gap. Installed properly it is sturdy enough. HOWEVER it is TERRIBLY hard to use. You have to guide the bottom latch in with your foot as you struggle to align the top latch into its hole at the same time. Now imagine you have a screaming, wriggling child in your arms. Unlatching is slightly easier. But if I had a different option I would definitely use it instead. When it comes to security there has to be a certain amount of ease to it or else people are going to avoid using it altogether, which defeats the purpose.

secure but hard to latch

The gate only comes with one of the round banister converters, but that is not made clear when you order. 
They are on back order for 4-5 months... so the gate is useless without it. 
Look like a great sturdy gate, but wont work without damaging my railings since the pictures are misleading.

Do not buy this gate. Very very difficult to open and close, especially with one hand. I'll return this because I don't have time and energy to waste while trying to open and close this gate. Now it makes sense why Walmart is the only seller who sells this gate. A baby gate should always be easy to open and close but this is soooo hard to open and close you really need a lot of strength and coordination in order to open and close it. Waste of money

Bought this gate for its sliding capability because we had to install it in a small highway leading to the stairs. We installed it followed all directions - the third time we opened it the part that keeps the gate in the bracket broke right off! Simply from a gentle lift that you are supposed to do to close it anyway. This should not be allowed to be sold if it's that easy to break.
