This is my second.  First one bought years ago.  I bought these for the alarm part which works great.  I have other emergency lights that work great but they dont have an alarm which is needed if you lose power when you are sleeping.  If you know what is on different circuits it can let you know if that circuit lost power.   You dont need to know that for whole house outages though.  The 1st one was to ket me know if my birdroom lost power for ac.  It was wired along with the outlet not in the birdroom and it let me know. Some reviews said its not loud enough but it wakes me.  I have had it for years so I bought a new one and put it in a different bedroom I use sometimes.  Once it is plugged in and you set alarm there is no nightlight but a small green light telling you its working.  This is the only one I found with alarm.

Alarm sound isn't loud but is loud enough to hear from all rooms in my house. Brightness of the light is about the same as a small LED flashlight. 
It has a switch that lets you switch between Alarm mode, Light mode and Off.
In Alarm mode, the alarm will sound and the light will come on if power to the outlet is lost. In Light mode, the light will come on when power is lost but the alarm won't sound.
It can double as a small rechargeable flashlight.  
It has a small green LED that is lit whenever there is power to the outlet.  
In case you can't tell by looking at the picture, it does not have an outlet on it for plugging a device into. It simply monitors the outlet you have it plugged into and lets you know if that outlet loses power.

Works exactly as expected

Nice and compact, alarm could be a little louder.

Compact unit and good price.  Recommended.

Power failure alarm

Unit died after 5 months during an electrical storm.  Now its stuck on the alarm and is unusable.  Light is very weak.
