I just bought my own in order to find the correct height of multiple posts on a treehouse cabin I am about to build. 

But I just wanted to say that we use these on large archaeological excavations too. I am an archaeologist.... This is a very useful tool to find the floors of 10cm levels during an excavation, or for that matter to measure the height of various prehistoric or historic features without needing to use a total station. We can set one of these up and pass around 2-3 receivers on stadia rods to get measurements during a site excavation all at the same time. That way, everyone stays busy at all times getting their own measurements without the need for a dedicated individual to run the laser and keep track of measurements. It is extremely efficient because no one is stuck at a point where they need a measurement for the paperwork and are waiting on someone else, like what happens with a total station. 

We are also working on a few paleontological excavations in Texas, so this will come in handy for getting those measurements from a control point.

One trick we have found we have to do to keep the tripod in exactly the same place day after day is that I drive three long hand drive nails into the ground to hold up the legs on the tripod fully extended. Those nails that are @3/8" thick and 12" long or so are perfect. They are the same ones we use for corner nails in unit excavations... I set the legs where they need to be to make marks in the soil, then hammer the nails in to just above the surface... I set the tripod back down on those nails to make small scratches to record where they go, and then I drill 3 divots into those nails with a large drill bit so that the points of the legs of the tripod fit right into those cups left by the drill bit... That becomes 'Control Point 1'. I then put a plummet on a string, put a nail right in the middle of that plummet into the soil, then use a permanent marker to make a dot where the plummet is... That control point then cannot be stepped around by heavy equipment or footsteps because that will change it, but if care is taken then that will become a permanent location to measure from...

I then make a 'Control Point 2' 100' or so away that can hit other areas I can't reach with CP1, and I shoot backwards at CP1 from CP2 every day to check the calibration of those two control points with one another. They should match with the recorded measurements in a 180 degree backshot to one another and if they don't then one of the nails is off or something has moved and it needs to be assessed as to why before continuing to pull measurements from either CP1 or CP2... This process can be expanded into CP3 and CP4, etc... But you cannot just assume the measurements are going to be the same from day to day. If it rains, the ground swells quite a bit sometimes... If a tree moves overnight, or someone accidentally stepped on a nail or hit it... That process is how you doublecheck errors before they become problems that are hard to find the source of.

Construction, landscaping, level headed or deliberately not, everything you need is in the Bosch Revolve2000 kit including the batteries and transport case.  
The transmitter can mount in horizontal or vertical mode on the tripod and auto-levels within a few seconds of startup.  I needed to find a location to drill through the foundation to place a power outlet in stone facing while keeping the inside hole for power wire near the main electrical panels but away from wall framing.  I found it very easy to set up vertical and horizontal references on the outside and inside walls so I could measure and locate the external and internal positions that best met the requirements and give me confidence that I will drill through 11 inches of foundation and come out in the right place.
The transmitter has a remote control with the same control layout as the transmitter so you don't have to disturb the transmitter to make any settings.  You can switch to manual leveling to allow tilting the x and or y direction to a desired slope such as drainage.  This allows you to just follow the laser line to get a consistent angle.  The tripod mount also includes a plumb bob hook for exact location of the transmitter and projects a vertical plumb laser out the top for locating against an upper surface.  There are ceiling mount and target tools to help install a level suspended ceiling, or maybe not level if you are doing a theater with sloping seating and ceiling.
For outdoor use where the laser is not bright enough to see there is a receiver that can be set from 1/32 inch to 1 inch sensitivity based on your project need.  The receiver will beep fast if it detects the laser high, slow if it detects the laser low, and a steady tone if the laser is within the sensitivity you set.  I needed to determine if I had enough grade to manage rain runoff toward a garden area without risking erosion.  The receiver made it easy to record elevations at marked locations and identify areas to scrape off or build up to guide runoff gently to get absorption without flooding.  The measuring rod can extend to measure 13 feet of elevation before having to relocate the transmitter.  The Revolve2000 has 1000 feet of range from transmitter to receiver so can handle a 72 acre circle.  That is about 46 acres of square space (inside the circle).

I bought mine about six months ago. I wish I would have gotten it sooner. It is very easy to use. Set up is fast and effortless. I use the wall mount almost every day makes my life much easier as I don't always have room for a tripod. I let my boss use it for two days he now has 2 of his own.  I highly recommend it
