Ease Of Use

We purchased the toilet auger because I've finally reached the age where my stools are sometimes too large to go down the toilet drain by themselves. We had a choice: pay a plumber some unknown but assuredly large amount to clear the drain for us. I decided to try to do it myself and, as it turned out, had the same problem using three different toilets over a three day period. The auger worked perfectly each time!

Best feature: It worked!

ridgid.com

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I like the idea that I can use a drill to operate the auger, instead of having to turn the crank.

Ease of use toilet auger

Well made, not one of those flimsy products. Saved me

Must have for homeowners

Worked great! Easy to use! Very helpful! I would definitely recommend this item!

Great purchase

I bought it two months ago so far it's worked pretty good we'll see how long it lasts.

Will see I've only used it 5 times. So far it's hel

I have no prior experience using a toilet auger. The biggest stumbling block for me was knowing how to get the head of the cable to begin its movement down the pipe. I wish the instructions cautioned users NOT to use sharp thrusts of the cable in and out - UNTIL AFTER the cable head has already entered into and made its way beyond the pipe opening of the toilet. I ended up scratching off most of the porcelain close to the bottom front of the toilet pipe opening - due to user error - before I realized that I needed to lower the handle end of the Toilet Auger all the way down, so that the Guide Tube touched the front rim of the toilet bowl, in order for me to be able to turn the Crank to push the head of the auger carefully and slowly, to enable the head of the auger to approach the toilet pipe opening at the correct angle, and then be able to successfully make its entry into the pipe opening. The auger successfully cleared the blockage using three feet of cable - while pushing the whole assembly deeper into the toilet pipe to gain another inch or two of pipe penetration. Luckily, I did not have to try using six feet of cable so I cannot rate that performance aspect of the auger.

A Solid Tool in need of Better Instructions

Every time I used this model it would pinch my fingers when pushed all the way in. I had replaced my k3 style with this one but after using it 3 times a it pinching my finger 3 times I went and purchased another k3 model.

Pinch your hand

The snap button mechanism does not work like it does in the video. When extending it works OK. When retrieving the line the snake does not work it's way back into the sheath. You have to manually do it. There's no other way to get the snap button to go into the upper hole. unless the line is FULLY in and you push the sheath down into the mechanism. Don't get me started about what you have to do if it gets stuck.

The device works, but buyer beware. It's not as easy as the video suggests. Your gloves will get wet.

If only it worked like the video

3 main issues:
1) The snake easily disconnected from the handle that gets rotated, leaving the snake in the toilet without a way to retrieve it, save for grabbing hold of it and pulling it out manually.
2) Even when it didn't disconnect, the nice "push the button and it telescopes closed" shown in the video was not at all my experience; instead, I pushed the button and tried telescoping it closed, only to have the snake move back out again. The fit of the snake in the handle tubing was so tight that the only way to retract the snake was to take hold of the snake itself (which had just been in the toilet) and manually shove it through the tubing.
3) The design of the snake head traps solid waste without a way to remove it. Not great for in-home use/storage.
It did, however, do the job.

not as advertised

Definitely does not work as well as the video led me to believe. The spring under th button is too stiff so the friction of the button inside the tube prevents the cable from extending. Had to manually pull the wet feces covered cable out of the tube, then manually push it back in. I made it work, but had a lot of cleanup and sanitation to do afterwards

Not great
