The Rightline Gear Sport Jr Car Top Carrier is 100% waterproof and attaches to vehicles WITH or WITHOUT a roof rack. Attach the carrier's straps to a vehicle’s roof rack or use the Car Clips to attach the straps to a vehicle's door frame weather molding. The carrier is made from UV protected PVC Semi-Coated Mesh XT and Hydrotuff for maximum durability. The materials are sewn together for strength and then welded along the stitching to make the seam waterproof. The carrier’s ZipRight System locates a urethane coated zipper on the protective zipper flap where water cannot enter. Drove across country with this strapped to my Hyundai Elantra using the door frame hooks. Did not need the mat that went underneath or the through the car straps. When we reached our destination after driving through dust storms and a lot of rain, everything inside was dry and undamaged (though we tried to avoid the rain and unloaded it as soon as we reached our destination).
We had a hard time finding a place to attach the hooks that seemed secure and though we checked the straps at every stop, we only had to adjust them twice. I think next time I will try the through the car straps because the hooks let water drip into the car at the attachment points when it rained (I would rather have the water dripping on my arm than in the carrier though).
My experience with this product was very satisfactory.

I purchased this item because I was moving out of state. I strapped it to the roof of my Honda Accord, packed it with my duffle bags and other tote bags and drove over 700 miles without incident. It rained for part of the trip and everything stayed dry. Great product for the value. Follow the directions and you should have no problems. I didn't hook it to the frame. We attached the hooks to the rings on the bag and ran the straps through the car and tightened them. Whenever we stopped, we checked the bag and the straps.

Great Product

Only item that would fit a 2014 Camry, used it sidewise since the rails we had custom-made had to be close together  (30 in.) on the roof. Went through 60 mph winds, rain, 109 degree heat, and over 2000 miles on this maiden voyage.The bag withstood it all, and over ten loadings and unloadings on this vacation. Still like new. Pleased we followed instructions to a T.  Warning: you will reduce your m.p.g. using this product: by about 7% for us.

Great Value on a Toyota Camry

Pros: It doesn't require roof racks, is a cheap option to expand your cargo space, stayed waterproof through a rain, surprisingly robust build. 
Cons: It took a bit longer to set up than anticipated, aero shape requires you to reconfigure your cargo a few times to make sure its full, loud!

I used this on my cx5 for a 5 hour road trip (10 hours total) and it did the trick.  The set up took a bit of time the first time, but once you have a general idea of how long the straps need to be it takes much less effort.

Nice, inexpensive cargo option

Got the carrier and two days later drove across the country to deliver my son to college. We hit a brief torrential rain storm in Arizona (felt like the car was being hit by machine gun fire) and not a drop got inside. The trick is to make sure the flaps fold where intended - this puts the zipper in the right position to assure no water gets through. The only problem was the straps were not long enough to loop through the car - not even close. So this "preferred" attachment is a joke - and we are talking about a Nissan Versa which is about as narrow as you can get. So we used the clips and they worked fine - no leaks through the doors, no slipping, no damage to paint or weather seal. The bag even cleaned up quickly (bugs squashed on the front) with a paper towel and a bit of water. Very happy with this product.

Works great - as advertised, with one exception

I filled it with tents and sleeping bags. I believed it would ride best full. I attached an additional line around the bad to the front of the car to prevent slippage at 70 mph. and a second line from the back to the rear bumper to prevent it flying forward if I had to slam on the brakes. We drove well over 20 hours and passed through one thunder and lightning storm with heavy rain. Everything arrived intact and dry. Bag seems no worse for wear.

Good and functional solution, BUT

If you do not have a roof rack, the tie down straps are too short, even when 2 are tied together as described (so that the 4 ties become two).

Also, if you drive in the rain, the cargo in the carrier does stay dry, BUT the water runs into the car where the necessary tension on the tie-down holds the rubber door seal gasket open.

I drive a KIA Soul. This was perfect for a trip that I was taking over 600 miles one way to the beach. A lot of room and easy to assemble. I do recommend the padding to go underneath, because I put the bag and the padding on and did not have it centered on the top of my car and it was hard to move around with the pad underneath. This assured me that it was going to be hard for the bag to move during the drive. The only reason I gave it 4/5 stars is because of the straps, as several people have mentioned. The straps that come with the bag are not long enough to attach inside the car. I chose to not use the hooks, and went and bought my own straps so I could connect inside the car. We experienced rain and everything was dry inside the bag. There was a little wind noise with this carrier, but not bad. I noticed at a rest area that the straps were being rubbed by the circles that they go through, cause the straps to wear. I purchased a small roll of duct tape and taped the straps where they ran through the rings preventing the wear from happening. This is also helped reduce the wind noise, because the straps could not viberate from the wind. This is a great carrier for small cars, would purchase another one if I needed it!

I would recommend to a friend that they use a hard case carrier because these won't hold there shape and it started to tear up after one trip from Texas to California.

Good news first. Quality of unit seemed very well made. Fair Price. Fit 4-6 duffle bags as advertised.
Bad News....Installation Instructions are horrible. Illustrations horrible. Tried to install on a 2005 Chevy Cavalier No Roof Rack....Could not figure out the "strapping system". Straps would not lock into place. Spent 3 hours on it. Straps to short for going thru car (not a good option anyway) Straps too long for door ridge installation. Would have cut them but had no confidence in the instructions. Took out the duffle bags. Sent it back.
