I got this bottle about 2 months ago and it came with a screw in filter. Loved it and had zero issues. The new drop in filter is not as good. I did have some leaking at first and was about to give up, but I screwed the lid on as tight as I could, having to use a bit more muscle than usual. But now it doesn't leak. The water doesn't taste as good, but maybe I didn't flush the filter good enough. Anyway, this was a 5 start product until the filters were changed. Now I'm not as excited about it.

Prefer the old filter

Bought our son one of these with the old-style screw in filter. LOVED IT! The cap is sturdy and keeps dirt off, it's made well, it's easy to fill. HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED that you now only offer drop in filter. Was just about to buy a bunch more bottles for the family. LISTEN TO YOUR CUSTOMERS! Almost everyone is saying the same thing. Problems with drop in: 1) likely a little more difficult to get in place just right, 2) easier to drop/fall out, 3) harder to fill bottle unless you take out the filter. BEFORE it was easy as can be...take off the cap, fill it, screw it back on. It was a GREAT bottle design. Don't blow it with the filter change. I'm not sure why you changed...I'm assuming some kind of cost decrease but curious on why (as an engineer, I know sometimes engineers just change things for the sake of change...in this case, not a good idea). Come on Rubbermaid, we're rooting for you. You could beat out Brita!

Go back to screw-in filter style and beat Brita!

In combination with the old screw-in filter, this bottle is great. Just takes a bit to get used to squeezing water into your mouth, but soon it becomes nature. Then you begin to appreciate how well it was designed, such that you never worry about losing the cap, how screwing the filter in guarantees a tight seal, and how unscrewing the whole cap takes the filter out of the way with it. It allowed you to easily refill the bottle at the tap, since you'd hold the bottle with one hand and operate the tap with the other.

Bottle + old screw-in filter = 5 stars.

The new drop-in filter defeats the eligance of the design. Now, when you unscrew the cap to refill, the filter is still there. You either have to try to pour water through the small cut outs around the filter, while avoiding having water splash everywhere, which is obviously slower, or you have to remove the filter. So you remove the filter, and now you're holding the bottle in one hand and the filter in the other, and you can't operate the tap. So now refilling the bottle first requires finding a clean surface to use to hold the filter. It needlessly complicates what was previously a simple and elegant process.

Bottle + new drop-in filter = 3 stars.

The screw-in filter design was great. Please re-continue that design to replace the current drop-in filter. Until then, I'm going to be looking at other brands' filter bottles when my filters need replacement.

New filter design hurts this great bottle

I have been using this bottle for almost two years now and have been very satisfied. I have purchased it more than once to have several bottles to choose from. I bought one for my husband and recommended it to others who have also loved it. I have tried to limit completely my use of bottled water and this bottle has been a great way for me to filter water from any tap water source so I can have good tasting water wherever I go. However, since Rubbermaid has changed the filter to the drop in model, I have had nothing but problems with a now leaking and dysfunctional bottle. When I screw the lid on tight, it tilts the filter making the seal malfunction. I have had numerous times of it leaking all over my car, my gym bag and myself. I have really tried to make this work because of my love of the bottle. It really has been my savior for drinking water and not using/buying bottled water. Unfortunately, I am now in the market for a new bottle as I think the new filter is completely terrible. To me, it makes the bottle unusable. For me, it's really unfortunate that something I have previously loved and recommended to several other people has turned into something I really can't say anything positive about anymore.

New Filter design is making me

I have purchased many brands of filtered bottles to find the best one for me. This one USED to be my choice. It is easiest to squeeze, has a high water-flow rate, and was easy to fill (with ice cubes, too!). However, I just found out from cust. support that they have recently changed the design. The filter used to screw securely into the top and prevent any unfiltered water from getting to the valve. However, now the filter isn't threaded anymore and just presses against in the value...and not squarely either, I might add. I have to either screw the top on VERY tightly, causing the filter to tilt sideways and get jammed in the bottom section, or I screw the the top down snugly and then it leaks. I'm no longer convinced I'm getting only filtered water due to this poor fit.
Sorry Rubbermaid...but your design change is a bad one. I mean, it's a good quality product, but it just isn't functional anymore. I'm going back to PUR until you fix this.

Recent design changes ruined this product.

PREFACE: I give bottle 1 Star with new filter design and 4.5 Stars with the old one.

To be fair, I think these bottles are great, but to add my voice to the almost unanimous customer opinion-FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT'S GOOD, PLEASE BRING BACK THE OLD SCREW IN FILTERS!!!! The new filter design causes the bottle to leak from the sides of cap when squeezed-no matter how tightly you tighten the lid, this does not happen with the old screw in filter. Simply doesn't leak. This doesn't work for me and may force me to choose a competitor product, even though I think the the Filter Fresh bottles are one of the better designs of filter bottles out there. I own 2 bottles and use them daily at my office, home and when doing various outdoor activities.

PROS:
*Works great (with old screw in filter!!!)
*Great Tasting water, no plastic taste or anything
*Very eco-friendly, I no longer but bottled water, which also saves me money.
*Doesn't leak with old screw filter
*Loop on cap is great for clipping to your belt or pack with a carabiner outdoors.
*Relatively inexpensive for bottle and replacement, will save you a ton of money over bottle water.

CONS:
**NEW FILTERS ARE TERRIBLE!!!!** (did you get that?? :)
other than that a few minor nits:
*Plastic is a little soft, scuffs very easily
*Bottle looks a little too much like a babies sippy bottle-could be a little sportier looking esp for dudes. Better color options would solve this.
*Squeezing bottle and drinking makes kind of a loud sound

But again the above criticisms are minor and I'll be happy if the filter problem is fixed.

PLEASE BRING BACK THE OLD SCREW IN TYPE FILTERS!!!

When I received the filter I thought I received the wrong filter because it was not the screw in filter as the one I previously had. This drop in filter is horrible. IT DOES NOT FILTER AND IT LEAKS THRU THE BOTTLE. The drop in filter has an opening around it where the water comes thru so it does not filter. I bought 2 boxes an now I feel I wasted my money.

New is Horrible

I bought 4 bottles for my family. They came with the screw in filters and I feel in love with my bottle. I used it all the time. Them it came time to replace the filters. They were not screw in, but ones you just drop in the base. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and tried it. I was very disappointed. The bottle leaks, when you screw the lid in tightly the filter leans, and frankly it doesn't actually filter the water. Water comes up around the filter instead of through the filter. So now I have 8 worthless replacement filters. With as good as they work, I might as well just drink straight tap water. I am thoroughly disappointed.

I'm not sure why the company chose to change the filter design for this bottle. The old ones worked great. I recently ordered the replacement filters from another vendor and the design has changed so that the filter doesn't attach anywhere and doesn't stay secure. It results in a mess every time you open the bottle and I don't think it filters the water much at all. It's a waste of money and has made the bottle no more useful than a regular water bottle without filtration.
BEWARE that the picture that is shown on this site is of the OLD replacement filter - the one that worked.

new filters stink

I am the owner of 4 Rubbermaid 1J54 bottles, 3 teal and 1 plum. I am very satisfied with the bottle and have recommended it as late as yesterday while shopping for a replacement filter in a local food chain. The bottles are very sturdy, light, easy to clean and use as well as BPA Free. I carry them with me in my work and personal vehicle. I use the bottles wherever I travel as it provides me with the best tasting water no matter where I am. I am however disappointed with the new filter which does not screw in. The filter is not filtering water along the sides and there is a vinegar-ish taste when using the lid properly. Please bring back the old screw in filters as they really filtered the water.

New Filter Does NOT Filter

I love this water bottle! I have the Bobble also, which is a water bottle with a filter, and the Rubbermaid one is so much better. It lets you add ice cubes, unlike Bobble, and it doesn't make a godawful whooshing noise after you take a drink, like Bobble. Also, the lid is really neat, and it lets you lock the cap out of the way while drinking. It's just fantastic and I think everyone should get one!!
