The finches love to sit in it to feed. Surprisingly, they don't even leave their droppings in it. Some of them even sleep in it. They also sit around the rim. I have as many as a dozen on it and in it at a time! I am prepared with lots of seed because it is in constant use. I wanted a feeder that did not make a mess or waste seed. I just adjust cover to about 4 inches from bowl and fill about half full of sunflower hearts/hulled seeds. The finches flock to it, but the bigger birds, like starlings, can't get to it. The seed stays dry in the rain. The cover can even be adjusted to form a lid if in really bad weather. The metal parts and construction are sturdy. Made to not rust or have water run down metal stem. Filling is easy since you can adjust the cover to slide up, but I just use a small scoop and fill from the side without adjusting it.

The Droll Yankee bird feeder was exactly like I expected.
I had one of these before but forgot to bring it when we moved.

I can always count on quality products from Droll Yankee Co.
And can always count on WalMart for excellent service. The bird feeder arrived 4 days before the estimated arrival time.

Had purchased this brand (actually made by the Droll Yankee company) many years ago and the adjustable cover worked so well to keep larger birds out of it that I wanted to buy some more to hang close to our sliding glass door to enjoy the smaller songbirds up close. It has stood up very well to the sun and weather with only a minimum of cloudiness on the clear plastic body. The over-sized lid/cover also helps to keep most of the rain out of the bottom portion. I would definitely buy these again!!

A Great, Sturdy Bird Feeder

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Looks good hanging on front side of the house. I already have one mounted on the wall of backyard. But some birds were continually looking for feed on front side too. This one suffices their need. They r really happy since then.
Good thing about it is the shade to save from rain and snow to some extent and even best part is the hood is transparent to see through for the birds.

Chirping of birds is so much welcoming for me. My mom loves this one because she is a bird lover too. Happy family now.

Beautiful and just enough size for the bird feeder

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The post office made a good attempt to destroy this bird feeder. The box was crushed. Surprisingly the plastic was not broken at all. Just the rod going through the middle was bent. My husband was able to straighten it out and make is useable once again. I am using the bird feeder to feed mealworms and berries to the Robins who are back from the South early this year. So far, they have not found it, but it takes time since I have not had a feeder up yet. I'm sure once they do, they will be thrilled. By lowering the adjustable cover, I can be sure to keep the food dry for them, even in blowing rain. It's a unique feature that will come in handy when the spring storms arrive.

Made tough!

I sent this to my daughter online then later saw in store. Was shocked at how small it was and would be very hard for birds any larger than finches and sparrows to use it. Cost way to much for its size and restrictions. It also does not hold very much seed. Actually only a handful. She said it was ok because the dome is clear and you can see the birds. The only pro I can think of is the large dome which keeps the rain out.

Base easily cracks and falls off. 
Poor design

Because of all of these being in the wrong place on the store shelf, I thought they were $15 and didn't find out until I was home and had put it outside, that it was $30. I would never have paid that for something so small. It's outside and I'm just going to leave it now. A few birds have used it but not like I would normally have. I have the top as high as it can go and I hope it will work for all the birds I usually have in my yard. I saw a couple standing in it while eating...probably more comfy for their feet....as long as they can eat, that's ok with me. It's not a bad feeder really...just seems like it's not worth that much money.

It seems pricey for what you get..

received in bent condition due to improper packing. Bar was bent in two places in order to force into a box that was too small. managed to almost straighten, at least enough to be used. If it wasn't for the wait and the possibility of getting another damaged feeder, I would have refused it and reordered.

packed badly

although attractive, this is a complete waste of $. Having used a baffle before I thought this would work and be attractive too. Not. The squirrels just slide of the top and crawl into the open feeder. Not happy...

this is NOT in any way squirrel resistant
