Purchased the SINGER® Heavy Duty 44S Mechanical Sewing Machine shortly before Christmas. My wife sat down “just to try it out.” That was weeks ago. I've seen brief sightings—usually near the fabric stash—before she disappeared back into what I can only describe as a high-speed stitch dimension.

This machine is a beast. It plows through thick fabric like it owes it money, doesn't complain, and just keeps sewing. Denim? Canvas? Multiple layers? Gone. The motor sounds confident, like it knows it's the boss of the craft room.

Simple controls, no nonsense, and apparently so enjoyable that time no longer exists when using it. I'm pretty sure it runs on creativity and caffeine.

If you're looking for a reliable, powerful sewing machine—great choice.
If you'd like to keep regular contact with your spouse—set boundaries and bring snacks.

Excellent machine. I miss my wife, but at least the projects are amazing.

This sewing machine is lightweight yet sturdy, easy to thread, versatile amount and types of stitches. Regular stitches and stretch stitches. I've tried it on various Fabrics such as polyester type, cotton, lightweight and heavyweight. Stitches well. I really like this machine.
Good value

I heard from a machine repairman that this machine is a good one if it's from Vietnam because it is already oiled.  The ones made in China are dry and because of this, if a new sewer buys it and is unaware, it may wear out or break.  Oil is necessary on these models.

Singer Heavy Duty Household Sewing Machine

This machine is amazing! Yes, it is louder than one of the computerized machines as other reviewers noted. That is simply because it is built with all metal parts. The only plastic on it is the outside body, not the moving parts. Whenever I had to take my other machine to a repair service, the tech would offer metal replacement parts, after showing me how the entire inside was made of plastic parts.  And plastic moving parts wear out %26 break faster. I expect this machine will be the last one I ever need to purchase.

Back to the basics

When my old machine decided not to sew anymore, I started looking at reviews for the Singer Heavy Duty machine. I have used Singer for years. Mostly great reviews   This machine is very similar to my old one. Easy to set up. I had no problems using it for my Christmas projects.  I am very happy with this sewing machine.

Easy to Use

The machine is heavy duty. I have a juki but can not get pant leg over the arm. This machine they fit perfect with room to spare. 

It is a great machine for beginners and experienced. It has no bells and whistles. Just essential  program. All manual. Has a needle threader manual. The tension and width are manual. Easy bobbin maker. About 25 stitch settings. Maybe more.  

I used it to hem and alter a satin gown. No problem with settings no bobbin issue. 

Recommend this machine

Loved everything about the machine with the exception of threading. To thread you have to put your hand close to the needle, but the space is very tight, and I have small hands. 
Everything else is excellent and durable
 I am 70, and sew alot for homeless people and I hope this will be my last machine.

Threading, and durability

I have now bought two of these machines for use in Costa Rica and Moab, Utah.  They are sturdy, powerful, simple and very utilitarian.  I wanted a non computerized machine I could take into areas where I might not be able to get repair help quickly.  They are terrific for the price and simplicity

Simple and dependable

Machine comes without an Owners Manual but you can probably get one on ebay.  Don't bother trying to call the store.  I tried for days and no one eveer answered the phone, either at %234 (online orders), or %230.  Automatic threader is a bit tricky but does work once you  get the hang of it.

No Service from Store

I've seen for 30 years. My machine finally died and I opted for a basic but heavy duty machine. This machine is so temperamental! You can be sewing and everything is going just fine, then the top thread starts bunching below the fabric without warning, without any thread change, fabric change, or bobbin change. Once, I changed the needle to a heavy duty and it acted up. I never was able to use a heavy needle and get it to sew. I had to go back to a lighter weight needle! This is a ridiculous source of frustration. Choose another model.
