I am a beginner and so far I have done very decent but this machine was very easy to set up and start sewing!! It has very easy start up instructions-but you do have to download the entire manual from Singer.com which saves losing the booklet of instructions (which I am known for misplacing manuals) but I was able to thread it up and start sewing within 15 minutes!! I did purchase a lower priced thread and it does break often but I am learning how to thread my needle and machine very quickly! so I would suggest to get higher quality thread. Very new user friendly and I love my machine cause it also came in black which I love more then anything.

What a simple, yet powerful sewing machine. The graphics were self explanatory and there are plenty of tutorials online to help you out. I fixed some loose stitching on a pair of pants I had been waiting to fix. It worked without a hitch. Highly recommend for beginners.

Excellent sewing machine for beginners.

I bought this as a "Secret Santa" gift for young seamstress who aspires to be a clothing designer. I wanted a machine that was smaller and easier to carry around. The fact that it was an all metal, mechanical machine would give this young lady a way to learn basic skills.

Good Machine to Learn Basic Skills

Bought this sewing machine for my sister who is a professional sewer, and she loves it.  She makes a lot of clothes and quilts, and she said it works great!

A little bit tricky threading at first, important to thread under the staple like metal strip on top.  Stitch selector a bit stiff to move I think it will loosen up some with use.  Stitch is nice, runs pretty quietly.  I like the style of it, I like the black that I bought.  Very sleek, pretty.   Over all I like it.  I would recommend it.

Good Singer for a good price

Great little machine, its limitations are in fact a benefit to a beginner. I haven't touched a sewing machine in 20 years, and wanted to start altering, constructing from pattern and even designing my own menswear. The main limitations are preset stitch lengths, however offset with multiple types of stitch -- it only has a tension dial besides the stitch selector. The second limitation is a lack of overlock. So as a novice, this has forced me to learn French seams and correct use of bias tape, for example. It's a great value for the money and I have had zero issues with it. My clothes look great. Took me about 2 minutes to plug in, spool and thread my bobbin and upper. Great product.

Important part is missing-the thread holder; sewing machine is in operatable without it.... very disappointed, set it up to sew this morning.  I need that part or need to return item today.

Hunk of plastic! So light it slips all over my desk when I sew. The Bobbin lid is a thin plastic that's hard to hold and put back on without dropping it.
