I have had my Singer 5400 long enough to have completed one project and this sewing machine couldn't be easier to use and work more effortlessly. Though I am not an expert by any means I have always been thankful my Mom taught me how to sew on her old Singer. I found the instructions easy to use and complete. I find the reviews that comment otherwise inaccurate. The DVD provided was very helpful as well. So for a guy who is 61 and not sewn in years, this was a great purchase. I would highly recommend the Singer 5400.

Great Sewing Machine

This is my first brand new sewing machine, as others I had were passed on to me. I absolutely love it. It sews through heavy material, as well as lightweight. The price was cheaper online than in the store, and for the price it meets all my expectations. I actually like to sew, for now I have a machine that cooperates!! We bought our daughter the 70 stitch machine, and she also loves her machine. I saved a few bucks by getting "only" 60 stitches...which are plenty!

Great product for the price!

I'm not a sewing expert...just a crafting aficionado trying to learn how to use a sewing machine. This singer sewing machine is easy to operate....easy enough for someone with no sewing machine knowledge like me, to work with. I haven't really done a lot of projects using my new singer yet...but so far so good.

Great Sewing Machine for Beginners!

I bought this light weight machine and I am so happy with it. I came across some minor problems but I was able to fix it. The needle broke but the kit came with extra needles. The quick start guide helped me being a visual learner and all, I was able to bob the thread.

Great machine

I bought this machine to make masks as well as some future projects that my husband has envisioned. I had some issues when I first got it. I was expecting to have purchased a brand new machine, bot a refurbished one. When I got it, the spindle to wind the bobbins would not turn. Upon closer inspection, there was thread tangled inside the machine around the spindle preventing it from working. I could see that the casing on the machine was not on straight, someone had opened it and not put it back together properly. Once I removed the excess tangled thread from inside the machine, everything worked fine and I have had no further problems.

I'm a Singer fan! When my almost 40 year old Fashion Mate couldn't hold the tension adjustment any longer I bit the bullet and got this machine on the recommendation of a friend. Apparently these machines are hit and miss because hers is fine but mine oiled up the thread horribly at first and still continued to some degree after several days of use. Also there were dropped stitches and tangles of thread under the fabric. Yes, I did hold the thread when I began each seam and that was better but didn't solve the problem completely. So after 3 garments and a week of frustration I returned it. Walmart was great about taking it back. I ordered a completely different machine and I'll review that one after I've sewn a little on it.

It's OK....But....

I'm so excited to get this sewing machine because it has an automated buttonhole maker which gives you four options of different butt holes
But I can't even explain how many times we changed out the bobbin we changed out the main spool we checked everything, and I could only get a couple button holes out of it because it kept catching and the bobbin would put excess thread backwards and then it would read error
I was so disappointed because I couldn't wait to get my project started and I'm hoping I can exchange this for a new one
So disappointed it seemed like such a nice machine to get

Just plain disappointed

Do not purchase this. The C4 Error in other reviews is 100% a huge flaw. I will sew a line, then find myself undoing my entire assembly to clean out three stitches into the next line. I have had this machine less than 2 days, and I have done every recommendation online to fix it only for it to be fine one minute and jam the next. My machine would also rock back and forth depending on the speed of my stitching. Just a horrible machine. I'll be looking elsewhere for a lowcost machine.

I purchased this sewing machine to make masks for the healthcare workers that I work with in Colorado during the Covid-19 crisis. I should have headed the reviews written previously. This machine is a piece of junk. From the moment I took it out of the box I was disappointed. The plastic casing is some of the cheapest and thinnest plastic I have ever seen. It immediately started jamming the bobbin thread and giving the C4 error. Had a friend who is a seamstress take it to her house and try to work with it and she agreed that it wasn't worth a fourth of what I paid for it. Then the next problem, if you tried to sew more than two light pieces of fabric together it wouldn't do it. Motor isn't powerful enough to go through more than two layers of light weight fabric. When I tried to sew the elastic to the masks that was a disaster. Went through a whole pack of needles due to the machine breaking the needles. It continued to jam and not be able to go through the fabric. My seamstress friend verified that the motor wasn't capable to doing this either. Not sure what this machine is good for. Please read my review and others before spending money buying this machine and trying to work with it. It doesn't work.

Would give it less than one star if I could

I bought this for my 85 year old mother. It was really loud and when went to remove a bobbin from the bobbin loader an important spring fell off and I could not find how to replace it.
Returning to Walmart today. I replaced it with a basic Brother machine from my local sewing machine dealer and it is quiet and appears to be much better built AND is $20 cheaper.
