The shavings smelled like oil/manufacturing/plastic. Our hamster stayed up on the ledges, out of the shavings. We cleaned the cage and layered it with some shredded paper. This is going back to the store. I went and read the package, and in small letters at the bottom, it said the shavings are a byproduct from manufacturing. I assume this batch got contaminated. 



Even if it isn't bad for our hamster, the smell makes our kids room smell bad.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Aspen shavings are safe for rabbits and guinea pigs, unlike pine or cedar. I prefer them to recycled paper shavings because the top layer tends to stay dry. We use them in our rabbits' litter boxes with some newspaper underneath and hay on top at one end.  Buying them in large bags is very economical, especially when they are on sale.

Excellent Bedding for Rabbits

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used to use just a straight So Phresh aspen bedding for my rats. Even though it says 99% dust free, it was still quite dusty. I now use the 99% dust free aspen and the So Phresh crumbled paper together. It is a much better bedding than just aspen alone.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My Syrian hamster loves this. She has a small second floor in her cage that this just about covers the ground of, and though she enjoys chewing at this mat, it's still very sturdy and has held up well. I'll purchase again if needed.

Great for Syrian hamsters

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It is nice if you have animals that don't care about dust or if your sinuses don't mind. I have rats, hamsters, and mice (plus sensitive sinuses) so it definitely doesn't work for me unfortunately. If they filter the product better to remove dust, it'll be a 5 star product.

Too dusty, more than other brands

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Does what it needs to but it's very dusty so I have to spend a lot of time sifting it before I put it in the cages. And there's always big wood pieces throughout that I have to find and pick out and these bags aren't small. But they're cheap and my hams prefer aspen bedding mixed with tp shreds over anything else I've tried.

Happy Hams

Been using this bedding for my pet rats for over 3 years. It's great! Works so much better than fleece (never understood why that was such a popular “bedding” for rats. It's not absorbent at all.) Aspen CAN be dusty on occasion, but it always settles and it's never caused problems respiratory-wise. I save a lot of money on bedding with this!

Been using for years

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Works great but clogs vacuum. We used this in a puppy littler box. It worked well and most of the time puppies will go to the bathroom in here so I say it works. However, once soiled it is difficult to clean. It clogged our vacuum and shop vacuum. It worked once we bought a bigger attachment hose (2.5inch) so it no longer clogs.

Works for puppies but clogs vacuums

I wanted to add shredded Aspen to the bedding in my Syrian hamster's tank and bin playpen and this looked like a terrific deal compared to Kaytee Aspen Bedding.  While it does its job to help with odor control, the pieces are larger and coarser than I expected and there are numerous wood chunks to pluck out of every handful.  My hamster doesn't seem to mind the coarseness, though.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] So Phresh Natural Aspen Small Animal Bedding is definitely guinea pig-approved! My pigs have had no issues with this product. The aspen wood shavings keep their cages fresh and clean without the worry of dust affecting their lungs as it is relatively dust-free, just like the packaging promises. For anyone with guinea pigs, I highly recommend this bedding!

So Phresh is FRESH!
