<p>The cocotte originated in France where this casserole dish was designed to cook chicken dishes: in fact, the word "cocotte" itself is the French word for "little hen". Since then, however, the cocotte cast iron Dutch oven dish has been used to make a wide variety of other dishes by chefs and home cooks including soups, stews pot roasts and ragouts as well as for perfecting sauces. Beginners can use them as they try their hand at tasty oven-baked dishes and professional French chefs can't do without them for gratins or delicate soufflés. This particular cocotte is grey, adding a hint of elegance when presenting food at the table, round and has a diameter of 24 cm. As well as being aesthetically pleasing, cast-iron is an excellent heat retainer and is good at distributing heat equally, characteristics which are enforced by Staub's special matte black enamel. The durable bottom of the enamelled cast-iron Dutch oven can serve as a pan for searing food before slow cooking or adding to the oven making this an incredibly versatile model. This enamel also helps preserve a food's unique flavour. Since a cocotte retains heat well, meat and vegetables can be cooked gently whilst preserving both flavour and nutritional content. It is therefore perfect for cooking healthy meals. Its specially designed lid also releases condensation at regular intervals, keeping meat wonderfully succulent. I love this so much! It's too small for making a meal for more than 2 but that's not the reason I got it. It's perfect for heating up leftovers, cooking side dishes, making a stock or just boiling water to cook pasta while other other pots are cooking away.
It's also a very nice looking piece of kitchenware.

Love this lil cocotte

I purchased this cocotte to make bread.  It is perfect for doing that and much more.  This is not my first cocotte.  I feel at this point that I am a collector of cocottes.  This color is so nice.  It has a wonderful antique look to it in my opinion.

I bought these coquette because i started baking sourdough! I love it so much I have a le creuset too and the coquette its so much better than the le creuset the color and size is perfect for loafs cant wait to use it for stews too since it has the basting lid!

I love this Dutch Oven. The truffle color is beautiful. The way it cooks is perfection. I am so happy with this. I have 2 homes one stove electric and one gas and I bought this for my electric stove top. Perfect on the top and the oven!

Perfect size for a couple or small family meals. I have larger sizes, but the 4 quart will be used most frequently for my family of 2!

Perfect size!

Although beautiful the color is not what I expected. I thought it looked more creamy white online than the grayish color that it actually is.  Had I seen it in person I would not have purchased this color. But it's well made and a good size.

Bought 2, and unfortunately one of them had a black dot on the lid, which is noticeable on this white truffle color. Other than that, very nice pot 😊

My pan arrived completely shattered and it has been a month and Zwilling has still failed to send out the replacement as they said. It is impossible to speak to anyone regarding this and emails are never responded to.

Poor quality - will be going back to Le Creuset
