<p>The dark blue cocotte from Staub’s La Cocotte series can be used in almost any kitchen. The big advantage of the cocotte is that it can distribute and retain heat well thanks to its cast iron base material. With a capacity of 5.2 litres and a diameter of 26 cm, the round cocotte in dark blue is ideal for larger households or for use in the professional world. You can use this casserole to emphasise healthy, easy and gentle cooking. The lid fits tightly on the pot so that hardly any heat can escape. It also has a drop-shaped structure to allow any collected condensation to be evenly redistributed back into the dish. You can use this cooking equipment on all types of cookers including induction hobs. Not only cast iron is used in the production of this cocotte: it is also coated with various enamels to ensure that heat can be optimally retained. As a result, the heat is evenly released to food. I cannot say enough about the quality of the Staub cookware.  I have used a competitor and feel they are similar, however I choose the quality of Staub.  The flavor of food, cooking quality and style are above and beyond.

Best cookware ever

If you are trying to choose your first Staub cocotte I suggest the 5.5 quart round.  It's not too big and not too small and you'll enjoy using it for everything from soups, stews and chilis to roasting a full chicken or slow roasting a pork shoulder.  The matte black interior provides a superior browning and clean up experience and the color selection is amazing.  Staub has a special "Majolique" glazing process that gives the colors dimension yet they are durable and you can easily scrub off baked on foods without worrying about scratches.

This one is the Perfect Size if you can't decide!

This is the perfect size for a typical size family...large enough to hold a large piece of meat or poultry.  The dark interior browns and sears protein nicely.  The 5.5 quart is large enough to cook meat, poultry and veggies together, using one piece of cookware.  The cocotte is a beautiful serving piece as well, Straight from the oven or stovetop to the table.  And the cocotte cleans up easily too.  A small piece of breading stuck to the bottom of the cocotte but released easily after a short time of soaking in warm soapy water.

Perfect Size for Family of 6

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was given the 5.5-qt Round Cocotte as a Christmas gift.  When I opened the box, it was so beautiful that I was almost afraid to cook in it.  But I am definitely glad I have!  This pot is an absolute dream.  Heat conduction is wonderful, stews & soups in particular can be simmered to perfection, easily transferable from stovetop to oven.  You will get excited every time you pull this gorgeous pot out of your cupboard to cook with.  Buy one now!

A joy for any cook!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We've been using cast iron dutch ovens for years but finally purchased a Staub Cocotte. It's made a world of difference in our cooking and has come in handy so many times since we received it! 5.5qts is the perfect size!

Amazing!!

I have always admired the marin blue at Sur la table, I think this is pretty close. The 5.5 bzise is perfect foe my needs. I can fid a good sized roast or make stew for a small crowd. i have a 4 qt and I cant decide if my nesxt one should be a 7 or a 9.

color and size, perfect

Love making no knead bread for my family, but wanted to double the recipe.  Decided on this 5.5 cocotte and it is truly the perfect sized pan for doing that.  My breads come out perfect.  The metal knob on the lid is oven safe in high temperatures, which is perfect for the 500 degree temperature it cooks at with lid on. The lid also fits nice and tight, and creates just the correct amount of steam to produce a hard crust and moist and perfect crumb.  Also great for Irish Stew which goes great with the bread.

Great for No Knead Bread

This cocotte is my go to piece of cookware.  I use it for everything, so much so it stays on my stove top day in and day out.  The interior has Staub's impressive black matte finish and produces beautiful searing.  The heating capability is like no other pan - even heat all through out the pan, even with a less than great stove top.  My favorite thing to make is burgers in the pan, the walls are high enough so no mess from any grease.  It also makes a mean round loaf of bread.

Does Everything You Can Think Of

I've had my Cocotte for a little over two weeks now.  Thus far I've baked bread and made two Indian curry dishes.  It cleans up like a dream and the exterior is gorgeous.  I did notice that there was a small white spot on the side where it seems as though the enamel wasn't completely colored.  I also noticed that on the inside there were three small spots that weren't covered by the black enamel coating.  There is no cracking or chipping to be found but for the price point, I do expect quality control to be a bit better.

Performs wonderfully! Minor enamel imperfections.
