It's soft for a rug. It lays on the floor more like a blanket, so it gets wrinkles in it quite a bit even if you don't walk on it. There's no backing on it so there's no substance to really have it lay flat. Definitely not a good purchase for a rug in a high traffic area, mine is a low traffic area and I am not happy with the wrinkles that just appear out of nowhere.
